Re: News & Discussion: Regional Transport
Well, you don't just need to have the railcars, you also need to add platforms for each stop along the way, because there are none if any along the current standard gauge track. You probably also need to add more passing loops as there are several freight trains that run at all times of the ...

Re: News & Discussion: Regional Transport
Rather than investing hundreds of millions of dollars into a regional rail network the government should make regional transport cheaper, more frequent and integrated into the Adelaide Metro system. This means being able to use Metrocards (with a higher charge, but not the crazy costs we have ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Does anyone here know how much travel times have been shortened as a result of the two programs of electrification and track refurbishment/resleepering?
I have no idea how much that is, but it's surely got to be an input into the case for (or against) further electrification and/or rail system ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
The way to grow patronage is for the service to be better than driving.
The following is all according to Google Maps, timing for an 10.30am arrival in Currie St: (I have minimal knowledge as to the accuracy of it)
A train from Chidda (Salisbury South) takes 23 minutes to get to the city, with ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Is it a case of ACC trying to force the hand of the state government?
ACC - "We're going to spend x upgrading OCS but we'll allow space for a future tram line if the state gov will fund it, hint hint, nudge nudge.."
And if the answer is that the Government won't, then that's the end of trams ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Genuine question, but how many further spur lines can the Outer Harbour/Seaford/Gawler Line(s) take before required further tracks? I note that in Melbourne, the inner suburban portion of a lot of their train network has four or more lines before each splitting off to their respective corridors. I ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
The APPA would be hypocrites if they whinged about the realignment of a road back to its original alignment.
East Terrace got realigned with minimal pushback. Obahn Tunnel got built despite the pushback.
The problem with the original alignment was that the intersection was a traffic nightmare ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
There are some small mentions of future tram line in the concept plan PDF, in particular under the 'design overview':
Future-proofing design for tram extension
Reserving a ‘no significant work’ zone along the
central median zone of street for the future tram
network extension, whilst providing ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
I live in the CBD, and the ACC sent me this link about the O'Connell Street redevelopment.

Note that there's zero reference to trams.
I would think that if the State Government had the slightest interest in putting ...

Re: The Housing Crisis
Developer buying cheap land to turn around for a quick buck discovers why it's cheap to begin with.
Yup. These guys want to buy cheap unserviced land, and make the taxpayer subsidise the cost of servicing it.
As it stands, the developer has to build, using the private sector, all services ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
I feel that the next 7 days will determine how much (if any) funding SA will get for Public Transport projects. How many projects were delayed/cancelled/scaled back after the Brisbane floods in 2010/11.
If Cyclone Alfred hits either Brisbane or the Gold Coast and if it's a Cat 3 when it hits land ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
I think it's important to remember that the Suburban Rail Loop in Melbourne had significant electoral impacts, including making safe Liberal seats marginal.
In Adelaide, we need to stop settling for mediocrity (that's the outdated Bug Country Town Mentality at play) and start demanding the best ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
It wasn't enough of a vote winner at the 2018 state election, so doubt they'd see it as one now. Trams weren't why Labor lost.
It's not about being why they lost, it's that it wasn't a powerful enough vision to make them win.
I look forward to the day that more tram extensions come and ...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Doesn't give you much hope in the capacity of South Australia business owners.
We are worried about costs, let's invest in something that's going to be most expensive for us to invest in
The businesses that actually produce electricity have expressly rejected nuclear.
Perhaps those businesses ...
