Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

2024 and we're still arguing over the reality of climate change? I'm out. This forum used to be a fantastic place to discuss infrastructure and have CONSTRUCTIVE arguments that didn't just dissolve into culture and idealogical wars. Sure, tempers got heated sometimes, and there certainly wasn't a si...

Re: CBD Policing & Behaviour

What have three cities in America have to do with Hindley St? What is the connection between the Australian Labor Party and these cities? What is the connection between the Australian Labor Party and the US Democrats? Not expecting a rational, nuanced, non-partisan answer... :) I think the issues th...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

Heavy rail - no way. The additional infrastructure required to run heavy, presumably electrified, rail would not suit the river Torrens environment. It’s taken decades for the area around the busway and river to reach a decent maturity and is one of the best environmental outcomes of any gov transpo...

[SWP] Re: New Womens and Childrens Hospital

Where’s the public transport access? A dinky bus stop on port road? And that car park is terrible…
Having just come back from Europe and enjoying the incredible public transport systems there it’s just disappointing that this hospital is designed for cars and pretty much nothing else…

Re: Speeding up train services

From daily lived experience on the OH line, removing the West Croydon and Woodville Park stations would be a massive inconvenience to the many PAX who use these stations every day. For two minutes recovery? Yeah nah. No matter whether it would improve times or not, any station removal would be seen ...

[SWP] Re: New Womens and Childrens Hospital

I’d almost forgive the location if it were an outstanding design. This is far from outstanding, or the usual bs “world class”. A multi story car park, with an open deck? It’s hideous, and such a terrible environmental message plonking a Soviet era parking block on parklands (what could be, but never...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

As much as I’d love to see it happen, it’s pretty much physically impossible to run any of the pre H types due to tram stop specs (height, shape etc) iirc. Plus you’d need to fit them with pantographs to run under the wires - trolley poles aren’t suitable on the main line. Best bet would be to suppo...

[COM] Re: Flinders Rail Link

It’s been pretty awesome from an infrastructure POV to watch the whole thing. From a noise / disturbance POV - not so! 😆 Interesting project. Not to mention the whole Darlington thing right there too. I don’t get a chance to post a lot but I’ll try more as both head towards finishing. One thing thou...

[COM] Re: Flinders Rail Link

There certainly is one segment still missing.
The span across Laffer dr is up, with the concrete floor panels now being installed on the girders as I write this.
Here's the poorly shot view from my office!

I hope it does well, looks good and features a food and drinks menu that’s almost completely south Australian. Fantastic stuff.

I work in the Mark Oliphant building facing onto Flinders Dr.
The spans went up yesterday morning, and today they are slowly installing the base panels.

I asked Dpti today, probably just a standard reply but anyway -

Hi, the City Tram Extension Project is expected to be completed by late April, when the commissioning of the line will occur, followed by driver training.

Re: News & Discussion: Road Issues & Traffic Congestion

Surely even the current minuscule spend on cycling infrastructure benefits more than just the cyclist? One more car off the road, etc etc? Yes I know not everyone can ride every where, you can't go fridge shopping on yer bike - but surely a safe network of cycling infrastructure provides people with...

[COM] Re: #U/C: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

What worries me, is the 2nd/3rd/etc stages of vic sq (redesign of tram line/road etc) will allow existing shade trees (esp north western corner) to be removed, meaning we'll end up with a pretty square, but totally unsuited to our climate. Like I said, I feel bad - I'm SO happy finally some of the m...
