Re: Railway Under the City (new plan)

The other advantage is increasing capacity of the lines that will use the underground section. Currently the limited platform numbers and very slow speed limit in Adelaide Railway Station means trains take a long time getting into and out off the station. This really limits the frequency of trains ...

Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

The foot traffic would be generated from the people who go to the aquarium. Again, I am neutral on whether it is a good idea, but one of the potential benefits would be that those who attend the aquarium may stay in the Port for a meal or a drink.

Also, the comment regarding the Port being sleepy ...

Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

I'm neither for nor against an aquarium, but they are not the kind of things that rely on foot traffic. They are more a targeted destination than something you might pop into when walking past (kind of like a zoo).

It may actually generate foot traffic in the immediate vicinity, as a result of ...

Why does it need to be built so tall? :wallbash: How tall are the people catching this train? If they had constructed it shorter and longer, with enclosed sides, it might actually do what a shelter is supposed to do, and shelter people from the weather. At this height, it won't even block the rain ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

That doesnt seem right. The Tram Grade Sep program alone is a $400m 50:50 state/feds contribution. not that i dont want even more rail investment, but the numbers dont seem to align.

Rode past 301 Pirie St this morning and Built Environ's yellow crane was onsite (disassembled). Do we know what (if anything) is happening on that site? Thanks

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Having been intimately involved in the planning, consultation and design of this project, it is a little disappointing that it's been formally dropped (again). Some of the key benefits of this project have also been ignored - in particular DDA access to platforms. Much of the cost of the project ...

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

Is that the soccer pitch that's fairly close to the rail line, down near Sir Donald Bradman? If so, it's not really the part of the parklands where members of the public are likely to venture. It's locked between rail corridor, a main road and other ovals. There is no residential or commercial ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Doing the transport planning after the development has been planned is like adding the egg whites to the pavlova after it's come out of the oven.

These days, transport is as critical to urban development as water/sewer/power/comms. You wouldn't wait until 10,000 people moved in before making ...

Regardless of who is at fault here, it's sad to see all the infighting that is likely distracting councilors from their primary objectives.

Also, one of Adelaide's critical gravity sewer mains runs down Regency Rd, with minimal grade (pretty much flat) and therefore minimal scope to realign. Not the only reason of course, but a contributor.

Re: News & Discussion: Other Metropolitan Developments

I noticed a couple of developments in construction on King William St Kent Town this morning. One on northern side (hills end) is almost complete (3-4 storey building) and one on southern side just starting (city end).

Also, the townhouses in Rundle / Little Grenfell coming along nicely. Kent Town ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Re the need to upgrade rail network...about the same number of people use Adelaide's current rail network per day as those driving on South Rd, but I am fairly sure more has been spent on upgrading South Rd over past decade (and prob will be into the future). Not that I want to start a debate on ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Overkill to ensure the contractor's works are functional before accepting them? Sounds like basic contract management. As English Electric mentioned earlier, they need to get things right before accepting the works and opening to the public.
Imagine the backlash had the department accepted the works ...
