Re: VIS: East-West Link

Why is this even needed when both Labor and Liberals are co-funding a $850M freight bypass east of the Adelaide Hills?
Better to spend this money on public transport.

Because only a fraction of vehicles coming down the freeway will use the bypass. A truck going from Tailem Bend to Outer Harbor ...

Re: M1 South-Eastern Freeway

Coalition roads and road safety spokesman Tony Pasin, also the Barker MP, said the freight bypass was “vital for increasing the productivity, efficiency and safety of South Australia’s freight network”.

”Three years of Labor’s inaction has put our state in the slow lane,” he said.

It's been ...

Re: VIS: East-West Link

Really, any tunnel would need to start around Bridgewater to avoid the worst of the grades. But then you're tunnelling 10km further which obviously isn't viable.

If the solution was easy/cheap, I'm sure it would have been implemented by now.

Does anyone know the history of why the main route to ...

Re: M1 South-Eastern Freeway

But how many do?

50 minutes of extra travel time is a fair bit extra. Optimistically, let's say the upgrades cut 10 minutes off the trip, that's still a significant time loss for what gain?

Fast forward 10 years to when the tunnels are finished, and there are only 10 signalised intersections ...

Re: VIS: East-West Link

What's the solution to trucks losing their brakes on the decent from Crafers?

The arrestor beds are there now, but the odd truck still ends up at the Tollgate intersection. What's to stop out of control trucks from entering the tunnel?

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

The way to grow patronage is for the service to be better than driving.

The following is all according to Google Maps, timing for an 10.30am arrival in Currie St: (I have minimal knowledge as to the accuracy of it)

A train from Chidda (Salisbury South) takes 23 minutes to get to the city, with an ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I like it. Great idea introducing an all-stop service between Flinders > Salisbury, meaning the Gawler > Seaford services can run express through the inner/middle suburbs.
I still think a 15 min weekday frequency on the Flinders > Salisbury all-stop line should be the aim if we want to grow ...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

Regardless of what the outcome is, this location deserves the absolute best and must only be for tourism and culture purposes. Festival Plaza is already becoming a wasted opportunity due to greed, we cannot let this golden piece of real estate see a similar fate.

I'm sure a Mr Walker is already ...

Re: M1 South-Eastern Freeway

Is the bypass actually going to be a viable route?

Looking at the map in the ABC article, it seems the majority of the route isn't being upgraded from what's there now, with a few targeted upgrades in some places.

I'm a B-Double driving from Melbourne to Perth, why would I take a scenic tour of ...

[SWP] Re: Festival Plaza Tower 2 | 160m | 38 Levels | Office

Accounting firms EY and PWC, the ATO (Australian taxation office), and the Commonwealth are in talks about becoming anchor tenants for the new tower.

More announcements in coming weeks.

How? This development hasn't even been approved yet. How can anyone be satisfied the blatant corruption ...

Seems weird that this wasn't done before the tower crane came down.

Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

Seems like an odd choice.

It makes sense from a connectivity point of view. Practically on the wharf, close to rail infrastructure, really good road connections.

But a location out at Direk or Edinburgh pretty much offers these same things, with presumably lower land costs. Seems odd to not have ...

Re: News & Discussion: Other Metropolitan Developments

That photo really highlights how much of a barrier the parklands are between the CBD and the Inner suburbs (The 4 lane road and 7 rail lines obviously don't exactly encourage connectivity)

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Skyrail would’ve also opened up community space beneath the rail line, but apparently it would’ve “separated the community”.

Thankfully the project was cancelled, and the community can continue to be united by the 20m wide rail corridor, cyclone fences and the boom gates closing every 10 ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Is it a case of ACC trying to force the hand of the state government?

ACC - "We're going to spend x upgrading OCS but we'll allow space for a future tram line if the state gov will fund it, hint hint, nudge nudge.."
