Re: Tram Signal Priority
I think the issue of right-turning cars can easily be solved as follows: Say an approaching tram is detected...as well as a green light for the tram, make a green right-turning arrow for cars also(Yes you'd be holding up cars travelling in the opposite direction). I'm pretty sure some intersections ...

Tram Signal Priority
While there seems to be plenty of talk about where to extend the tram network or the best route for a future Airport Tramline, I haven't heard anything about Tram Signal Priority. If trams didn't have to wait at traffic lights(at all!) it would obviously make the tram line much quicker through the C...

Re: Airport transport access (split from news thread)
claybro, I agree with you on continuing the tram line down Richmond Rd onto the airport property, as outlined in the Airport's Master Plan. It would be cheaper and cause less onconvenience to vehicle traffic. http://www.adelaideairport.com.au/assets/pdfs/master-planning/Vol2MaterPlanDec2009.pdf Scro...

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)
I'm all for Toll Roads, for new developments.
eg. completing South Road
Port Road freeway
Ring Route improvements
If not to get new infrastructure, but to put others off using them...freeing them up for me
Some of the toll costs would be offset in vehicle running cost savings also.

Re: Airport transport access (split from news thread)
Hi Maximum, Thanks for the reply. I'm not taking anything too seriously, just trying to correct a couple of points, apologies if I came across that way :D I'm not sure what this smart tracking technology is...airliners into adelaide already fly an instrument landing system approach, which is a preci...

Re: Airport transport access (split from news thread)
Fair enough comment Norman. I guess my point is that any decent public transport upgrade to the airport will be very expensive in comparison to Edinburgh, but if there's a plan to do it then I'm all for it. As for the article Maximum, flight paths for Adelaide can't be changed(I can explain if neces...

Re: Airport transport access (split from news thread)
A 30 minute journey time by train (optimistic when you factor in waiting time) is still much slower than the time it takes to get to the existing airport. Is Adelaide Airport somehow special in that it doesn't have waiting time for public transport? I just compared the travel times using public tra...

Re: Airport transport access (split from news thread)
The Gawler line is actually quite close to Edinburgh, ~1.3km from the front gate. In fact Edinburgh still has the old railway platform from when it had it's own branch line. As you eluded to however, I was meaning the interstate standard gauge line, as any civilian terminal would be to the north of ...

Re: Churchill Road expansion to 4 lanes
The reason I mentioned Churchill Road North is because northbound traffic can avoid 1 set of lights travelling via Churchill Road North vice Cavan Road.Aidan wrote: There's no reason to widen Churchill Road North, as Cavan Road is already 2+2 lanes.

Re: Churchill Road expansion to 4 lanes
It would also help alleviate congestion from Gepps Cross intersection. Traffic for Port Wakefield Road from Gepps Cross could be given less priority with the alternate route of Churchill Road available instead.

Re: Airport transport access (split from news thread)
I know it's been mentioned a billion times but what about Gilman? While Gillman would have great transport connections, I'm afraid that it's too close to both Parafield and Edinburgh. 99% of the time airliners do a straight-in approach, usually via an Instrument Landing System(ILS) approach. This i...

Churchill Road expansion to 4 lanes
I ran a search, and found bits and pieces here and there, but not a topic covering this: I think Churchill Road(And Churchill Road North) should be made 4 lanes ie. 2 in each direction, similar to Main North Road. It is a widely used thoroughfare already, but it's very inefficient since is goes from...

Cheap, easy solution. Clipsal can even continue, and net parkland increases.

Re: Airport transport access (split from news thread)
Fair enough replies guys; I suppose we can agree to disagree. Like anything in life there's no perfect solution so I guess the argument can be summarised by: Pro Adelaide -Central location -Into wind runway(negligible benefit) Pro Edinburgh -Close railway line -Room for further expansion -No curfew ...

Re: Airport transport access (split from news thread)
While I support the expansion of the rail network throughout Adelaide, just NOT to the Airport. I think that the airport should be planned to move out to RAAF Edinburgh, in the long term(10/20 yrs down the track) My reasons being: -The Gawler Line already runs close to RAAF Edinburgh, making a short...
