Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Widely discussed on here as a vision - confirmation via InDaily that electrification of the Outer H Line will happen in the medium term, if for no other reason than to continue decarbonisation and the fact that the 3000 class railcars are reaching their end-of-life (though this last fact not specifi...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker
Combining this commuter rail with the strategic vision of the CBD underground loop (using the reserved cutting near the Morphett St bridge and SAHMRI) could make it a game-changer. Will cost billions though.

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million
I was thinking yesterday the trees were either Kurrojongs or Peppercorns, and with SRW’s comment they must be Peppercorns. The very detailed planning application document first shared here in mid 2020 shows exactly what the public realm will look like, including tree species, greening, paving: https...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)
A few months’ back someone posted some pictures of the new North Tce pavement near the restored cafe already dug up - even though they only landscaped this section in 2020. I don’t suppose if anyone passing by has noticed if they’ve replaced this properly, or is it still ‘temporary’ bitumen? Thank y...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million
I think I’ll wait a few years when the tower is complete, the retail building is open and the landscaping mature to make a final comment. I’m sure it will be an improvement on what was there before. The ultimate problem with the site is that it is being built on top of a massive car park (what other...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
On a side note, looking carefully through the budget papers $10 million has been allocated in the next two financial years to “retrofit energy storage and recovery systems to diesel rail cars to reduce fuel consumption and improve performance” ( p58 of the Budget Measures Statement). That would mean...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Well, we’ve only been waiting 40 years or so for the Adelaide City Council and the State Government to jointly commit to turning Currie-Grenfell into a transit mall so maybe this is the year. Ironically, the original late 1970s LRT proposal up the Torrens would have used King William St and then thr...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
I vaguely remember the State Transport Authority’s (STA) “see you later alligator... catch a ride with a friend” TV jingle from the early 90s with people boarding buses and 3000 class railcars...

Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects
Re: some of the comments above, reading through the City of Adelaide Draft 2021-22 Budget carefully, it seems $2.1 million has been allocated for Nth Terrace this year, and $200,000 for Leigh St (presumably for footpath upgrades). However some of this is reallocated from previous unspent funds. The ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
When train services resume on the Gawler line they will probably be a mixture of diesel and electric. Remember when the electricification work on the Gawler and Outer Harbor lines was suspended in 2012 the government of the day allegedly attempted to amend the train procurement contract to reduce th...

Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects
Sorry I don’t mean to thread bump but as an expat based based in London I don’t know if anyone wandering through Bank St, Gawler Place or Topham Mall north could take a few pictures? Really keen to see how all the greenery has developed the last couple of years since the lane way upgrades. Hopefully...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
As part of the Gawler Rail Electrification Project (GREP), the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) advises of a temporary closure to the Gawler Central Railway Station car park (Park ‘n’ Ride) from Monday 1 March 2021 until Sunday 10 October 2021. The closure of this car pa...

Thanks Andy as always. For what it’s worth, the beige power pole prominent in Andy’s 3rd and 5th pictures protruding through the awnings is one of the original tram overhead supports; probably installed around 100 years ago at a guess. Worth keeping.

In Adelaide, the Noarlunga Rail Extension opened in 1978, after works to extend the line from Hallett Cove.
