Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
What I'm curious about is how the project will deal with the freight line (alongside the Gawler line all the way to Salisbury). They seemed to manage to electrify the section of the Seaford line directly adjacent to the standard gauge around Gaol Loop/ Mile End and Keswick/Goodwood areas without to...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Here's a question for any commuters on the Gawler line who like to look out of the window..... Is there evidence of any preparations "on the ground" for the electrification? You'd expect by now there would be visible activity around surveying, setting out and pouring concrete foundations f...

Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic
Rundle/East intersection had major issues with fitting the amount of pedestrian traffic during events like Fringe. Hundreds at a time were trying to squeeze on the island and would spill well in to the roads surrounding it in every direction. At intersections like that with such large volumes of fo...

Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic
Here's a question about "Turn Left With Care" slip lanes on arterial roads. Is there now a policy to eliminate this type of slip lane whenever intersections are re-modelled or re-constructed? I saw this happened when intersections on Rundle Road, East Terrace and Pirie St / Hutt St were mo...

Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic
Presumably the simpler and cheaper alternative is to discourage drivers from using Rosetta Street as a north-south cut-through. It is after all a residential street with no immediate access to major north-south routes at either end. David Terrace and South Road should ideally carry all but local ac...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
York Civil, the S.A. construction company which is in a Joint Venture with Downer EDI Works for the North Terrace tram extension, has just announced it is going into voluntary administration. York are also involved in the Torrens to Torrens project on South Road. https://indaily.com.au/news/business...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Just before 9.00am Friday, a correspondent on ABC Radio Adelaide (I'm not sure who was speaking - it was a journalist, not a project spokesperson) said the signalling problem has been traced to reo bars installed in the mass concrete at the new junction. Apparently the bars should have been cut duri...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Just to be clear - in light of recent posts about whether or not scissors crossovers need signals - the fault causing the most recent delay to opening the extensions was in the control of the North Terrace / King William St junction. According to this ABC report a regular tram in public service was ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Looks like there's an odd tram that occasionally does the full Glenelg <-> Ent Centre route. Not sure what the point is of throwing those in the mix other than to add confusion. And speaking of confusion, whoever did the timetable needs a slap on the back of the head. They've combined all the route...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
https://www.facebook.com/9NewsAdelaide/videos/1873977459572881/ Following the media reports on 20 June about the risk of electric shocks from live metal balustrades, am I the only one who went away assuming this problem involved most, if not all of the new railings at all of the new stops? In fact,...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
The big thing slowing down the Glenelg tram is stop spacing. Stops are about 400 m apart, similar to bus stops. ...... On the central part of the "main line" (Forestville to Plympton Park) there are 8 stops in 3.6km, meaning around 515m between stops on average, which I think is OK for th...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Um... how exactly would platform balustrading conduct electricity from catenary wires except in the most extreme of circumstances? I suspect the risk of "live" fixtures & fittings at tram stops is due to possible stray current arising from the traction current returning to earth when ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Has anyone seen the two "new" Citadis 207 & 209 out and about yet?
While I don't go out of my way to look out for particular trams, I have seen 208 in service a good few times but never noticed 207 or 209 yet.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
.......... Note that the Riverside stop is not even close to finished. I have to say that building the tram stops has been extremely slow. Four months and not finished. At this rate, maybe the North Terrace section will be opened by the end of May, but unless someone puts a rocket up the contractor...
