Plenty of cities have moved airports away from the city centre. Hong Kong had Kai Tak, Singapore had Kallang, now replaced with wonderful new facilities well connected to the city centre.
The same could easily be done in Adelaide, the cost could be managed where the existing land is largely an ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Qantas could make Adelaide - Singapore work easily. It’s a six hour trip and return fares on SQ at the moment are regularly $1500 or higher.
There’s plenty of demand, I feel the Singapore tourist market is underserved, because they tend to focus on the other states but love food, wine and outdoor ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Our morning Qatar 777 arrival will disappear if this deal goes through
Good. It's ridiculous that one of the earliest flights into Adelaide once the curfew is lifted is also one of the loudest, and is only flying to Adelaide to circumvent regulations that restrict the number of flights they can ...

Re: News & Discussion: Other Metropolitan Developments
Does anyone have any info on what's going into the development on the corner of Sutton Terrance and Richmond Road Marleston? It's a huge site, and one of the buildings is shaping up as very supermarket-like (large windows, and a canopy over the entrance), thinking it would be a great site for a ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
so you've all just proved my point that buses are superior to trams :applause:
I’d suggest asking the users of Sydney’s route 333 to Bondi, the busiest bus route in Sydney, whether their chockablock buses would be superior to light rail?
Or people who commute around the Hoddle Grid in ...

Either / or for Henley Beach Road or Sir Don Bradman drive. I live between them and they're both a dog's breakfast in the mornings.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
but pretty much no information on how that extra traffic generated will be able to be served.
Well most of the inner city infill zones are along existing PT corridors (buses), so at least there's that.
The argument with trams is great for those that live or work along the line, but take ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
I'd rather see the Qantas A321XLR serve Christchurch. If they ever try competing to Singapore I'd hope SIA would add some scoot flights to try and beat Qantas at their own game.

Nope, the freighters land in overnight on reduced thrust where they can. Last night was definitely a 777 takeoff over the city

Thanks for posting, remember it now. I'm at Mile End and woke up thinking that was a bloody big plane for that time of night. Especially taking off in this direction where they rattle the windows.

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
The reason the oBahn works so well is because it serves a limited number of nodes (Klemzig, Paradise, TTP) with large distances between them, and buses can divert onto local routes through low density suburbs from any one of those nodes. The collection of many bus routes means services become ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
it is much cheaper to build than underground rail, and achieves perfectly good outcomes, but realistically there would be a lot of opposition from inner West NIMBYs.
As a resident of the inner west I find this comment quite amusing. A lot of the push back on plans like this comes from the ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
This is a really good idea and would certainly bump patronage up. if I can get this information on Google Maps surely they could plug it into a couple of screens at the departures area.
Perhaps along with some better signage on where the bus routes go... so if a bus rocks up saying Golden Grove ...
