Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Interesting no one here all day has mentioned Qatar's interest in acquiring a 25% stake in Virgin Australia. For those not up to speed here's this mornings article in the FT. Qatar Airways agrees to buy 25% stake in Virgin Australia Australia’s second-largest carrier would return to long-haul flyin...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
If we're looking for a low cost hub and spoke airline in Singapore, I'd probably aim for Scoot. A lot more destinations and aircraft right now. Getting Air Asia (from KL) back would be another option.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
it would? :? Perhaps "Adelaide to a North American hub"? But Adelaide has a niche film industry and video game industry, both of which could be relevant to Los Angeles and nearby California. There is probably more travel done to/from Adelaide for the Defence sector, but I'm not sure if th...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
People complaining about Perth getting huge infrastructure upgrades are failing to understand that the 787 Dreamliners can fly non-stop from Perth to London, Rome & a number of other potential European capitals, all of which are too far from Adelaide to reach safely. With these upgrades, a trip...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Note that Rex will be using Embraer E190's on Perth - Adelaide. They could probably fill 737's if they wanted to, but remember Rex tried running 737-Maxes on Mildura - Sunshine Coast, and see how that turned out for them. Might not be enough affordable 737 available right now either, Virgin is also...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Might be a capacity issue for the actual aeroplanes in relation to scheduling that's available? Is United able to fly into Adelaide from an Australian federal government (or whatever department/agency within government) at the moment? ie the whole Qatar debacle. Not sure with United, but aircraft (...

Seems to be adding 3 indoor courts, a bunch of outdoor ones on what used to be used as a car park and a new gym/office space out the back. I can't see the 36ers moving games back there (except preseason matches or the odd double booking at the Entertainment Centre) when there's even less parking an...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
I thought the 3000 series were already diesel-electric? Believe so, seems they're adding regenerative braking and some batteries rather than relying solely on the diesel engine to power the electric motor. Makes sense considering the stop/start nature of the Outer Harbor/Grange lines and the amount...

[COM] Re: Memorial Drive upgrade
Never said anything about grand slams, or capacity. I'm talking about the overall upgrade. It's mediocre, at best. There was a proposal, or vision perhaps, for a new stadium built in it's place. Instead our government of the time wanted to build a white elephant across the river so gave us a patch ...

[PRO] Re: Hindmarsh Stadium Upgrade
Interesting hypothesis, but maybe the Liberals need to think of better proposals in future. I don't think there would have been any serious detraction to a full upgrade of Hindmarsh, especially as the cost would be nowhere near that of their Riverbank Arena plan. I don't see the use case for an upg...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Qatar is currently flying a second daily flight which is detouring to and from Adelaide after arriving in Melbourne, however it doesn't appear to be taking passengers from Adelaide. I believe this is a temporary compliance arrangement for Qatar until it goes back to the planned Doha-Melbourne-Canbe...

Well Marshall did propose a $600 million "basketball stadium", but the ppl voted. Can't see anything better getting floated in the next 3 and a bit years :| Yeh well, there was also the vision for this stadium to be completely redeveloped, but you know, Mr Marshall didn't like that idea, ...
