First Glasgow have a similar system which I used a few times and it's fine, as long as you have the QR code ready upon boarding.

It shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone that the free fares mixed with low frequencies would result in this overcrowding. It's half of why I didn't bother going to see the fireworks.

Pending any other recommendations from traditional owner groups this is probably the best approach. Had there been any suggestion of this before development started? I agree fully with that article. Whilst I also agree with free public transport, in a context like Adelaide's it should be nowhere near the top of the priority list. People are willing to pay a reasonable amount for a good service like in many other cities.
