Might want to take in to account inflation when calculating 80's debt level with todays.

Having a deficit is not necessarily a bad thing as indicated by us keeping a AAA credit rating

I give 0 credence to anything that is written in the Australia.

Diabolical situation

Queue recession, wait......... Depression. Only the Liberal Party can save us now.

That is what your saying isn’t it Waerick?
Governments aim for 3-4% unemployment. I think we all should know, and hopefully do, that it's impossible to get 0% unemployment.

Correct or not, I'd always be cautious about any government unemployment figure. You only have to work one hour a week as a minimum these days to qualify as being 'employed'.

Also, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I have this vague feeling that we only just managed to keep that AAA rating.

Wow, who would have thought that the Sensational Adelaide forum would "suddenly" turn into a political debate about who is/has doing/done a better job. All biases please leave at the welcome screen.

Back to topic please.....

Noticed over the last week variable message boards displaying notices advising the Seacombe Road bridge will be closed from 5th may to Nov. Exact wording "Seacombe Rd bridge, Closed 5th may to Nov". Is this the first bridge to be rebuilt?

Some fencing "ala clipsal style" has been placed on the concrete crash barriers in the first big cutting heading south after Seacombe Rd.
Majority of the trees on the Western side of the road, Between Beach Rd and Flaxmil Rd have been cleared, and some Survey pegs and markers are now in place next to the bridge over Christies Creek (the bridge the teenager fell off and died last year)

The Seacombe Road bridge is just one of 3 bridges that will be closed from May while works to extend them begin.

Seacombe Road from May to November 2012.
O'Sullivan Beach Road from May to December 2012.
Elizabeth Road from May 2012 to April 2013.

Traffic Restrictions will also be in place from May at the Beach Road interchange while works begin there as well, starting with the constuction of the new on and off ramps.

Thanks for that Info, now know to avoid these places.
I travel across the Beach Rd Bridge numerous times each week and putting up the boards today, Only just over a week out from work commencing seems a little slack.
Any Information on when the Flaxmill Rd bridge will get done? I know its abit more difficult being the main thoroughfare for Sapol,Fire and Ambulance services so must be kept open.

A little more notice, particularly at Beach road would have been good. Although, Initially I'm not sure what the impact will be. The signs say to expect delays, but the initial works to be done there according to the information provided at the open days, is to build the new on and off ramps. That work would, for the most part, be occurring away from beach Road itself, with the exception of trucks entering and exiting the work area. So I would expect the disruptions there to be minimal to begin with. I certainly hope so being as I use that area twice a day 5 days a week :D

As for Flaxmill road, it is scheduled for closure between April 2013 and October 2013. By this time it is scheduled that the 2 adjacent crossings of O'Sullivan Beach Road and Elizabeth road will be complete and re-opened to traffic, so Emergency servcies will have to plan to use these routes.

Of note also is that Beach road is planned to be kept open for the entire contruction works for the bridge (achievable as they are widening this bridge as well), so this route will be open also, albeit likely to be painfully slow to get through by the time they've closing Flaxmill road off.

Big dig to duplicate Southern Expressway
Updated June 08, 2012 13:35:10

A huge bulldozer has been brought to Adelaide for some of the excavation work to duplicate the Southern Expressway.

The dozer is being used to rip rock from the Darlington escarpment.

"The D11 is a massive machine and is a great indication of the sheer scale of works that are underway to duplicate the Southern Expressway," said Infrastructure Minister Patrick Conlon.

"At almost five metres tall and weighing nearly 105 tonnes, the D11 generates 1,000 horsepower."

The South Australian Government denied work was continuing on the duplication of the 18-kilometre one-way road at the expense of rail projects because of the number of marginal Labor seats the road project affects.

The additional lanes are expected to open for traffic in the middle of 2014.
I loved the line about the seats in the south being marginal... aren't most Labor seats in the state now marginal?

Anyone want to bet this will be ahead of schedule and finish around February/March 2014? ;)

I look forward to this being completed ASAP regardless, so they can hopefully start on the next stage between Regency Road and ANZAC Highway!
