#SWP: The Promenade - S2 l Shopping Ctr/Apartments/Offices

#481 Post by bm7500 » Thu Apr 19, 2012 9:55 am

This development has been separated from the Mawson Lakes - Not just another suburb thread as site works commenced earlier this week.

The development is adjacent to stage one of The Promenade in Mawson Central, Mawson Lakes.

This project is Stage 2 of 3 and will comprise the following:

A Woolworths Supermarket with a ground floor area of 3,800m2 and a mezzanine office area of 150m2

Retail specialty tenancies with a total floor area of 1163m2

Office floor areas totalling 593m2

A café with 24 seats

A total of 40 residential units comprising 34 single bedroom units & 6 two bedroom units

An integrated 2 storey car park of 387 spaces

The Stage 2 development will result in relocation of the existing Woolworths supermarket into the new development. The existing
supermarket building within Stage 1 will continue to be used as a retail tenancy (possibly a DDS or similar type of tenant).

Metro, your overt contempt for all things Mawson Lakes is wearing a bit thin on here. If you have nothing constructive to add to the thread then it's best you add nothing at all.

au contraire, in Mawson lakes i do like the new UniSA buildings with their striking contemporary architecture. the Promenade area with the Boatdeck cafe has pretty good atmosphere too and i also like the TCL designed Japanese style garden. So it's not ALL bad..

However..

For a new, iconic, vibrant, exciting, happening (and as many other positive marketing words possible), it saddens me to see Woolies having a monopoly, the hotel is very 90s with it's ordinary almost RSL-club design and pokies, in fact the 'gaming room' is the only thing in the town that is open all sunday morning - it's the only nightlife of the area. And now this ugly extension of the retail centre, All I can see in the pictures are hard surfaces, carparking and tacked on shoebox townhouses, and when it's all done Woolies will still be the only supermarket.. so my contempt is more for the Woolies monopoly in Mawson lakes.

Another supermarket could easily move into the old Woolworths store once they move out. I seriously don't get the hatred towards Mawson Lakes, it is soooo much better than the typical form of sprawl (Paralowie, Seaford Meadows etc). It's also starting to look nicer now that the trees are starting to mature, and it's full of the word that gets thrown alot on this website "density"

Mawson Lakes isn't that bad.

Loving this!!! That Woolworths in Mawson Lakes is just rubbish... Too small, not enough checkouts, lack of self serve and the car park with only 2 entrances/exits is insane. This can't come soon enough. Although I wish that the existing Woolworths became a Foodland. No harm in 2 supermarkets in Mawson Lakes with 11,000 residents and uni students... I've heard on the grapevine that it is to become a Target though.

Or possibly Coles as it will celebrate it's 100th anniversary in 2014.

I'd much prefer a Foodland but I suppose anything to give that woolworths some competition

That's all I can see too. However, sometimes these places end up looking a little better than the renders, thankfully. For instance, I'm trying to see it with those trees being taller than the buildings ...

According to the large leasing ad in today's Tiser Target is the confirmed new major tenant at the expanded Mawson Lakes shopping Centre.

Headline in the ad reads:

New Specialty Shops Available

Woolworths & Target committed!

BE QUICK!! Opportunities are LEASING FAST!! ( . . . . . . yeah I'm sure they are!).

No mention whether it will be a fully sized store or their smaller Urban format.

It would be good to see some more facilities in Mawson Lakes such as cinemas, nightclubs, etc....

I think that until there's more facilities then it's unlikely that there will be buildings which are more then
5 levels.

You can take this 9-level building as disproof-of-concept then, if you like
cheers,
