Wow, someone's gone cuckoo. How on earth does anyone on this thread sound like they treat Apple as some kind of deity?! Is it because we support something that will give our retail scene a bit more diversity? I don't care if I don't buy a single thing from the store...it is good news for Adelaide and that's that.
BTW regarding the shop front, I guess Apple have a standard for store fit-outs but I sort of wish it looked like that new building across from Myer Centre.

Mutt, I think if there's anyone showing ridiculously obsessive behaviour about Apple, it's you. Just chill. You obviously think their products are the devil, but a lot of people like them. Such is the way of the world. I personally don't like Fords, but I don't go frothing at the mouth if someone buys a Ford, or a Ford dealership opens.
[COM] Re: U/C: Rundle Place Ben/Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 76
i've already said, i dont care if they're here or not. my issue is with others here that cream themselves over the thought of an Apple Store in Adelaide, and then it must be this or must be that. who the f**k cares is my point. i couldnt care less if they're here or not.Nathan wrote:Mutt, I think if there's anyone showing ridiculously obsessive behaviour about Apple, it's you. then someone saying everyone has an apple product in their house was like a red rag to a bull for me
[COM] Re: U/C: Rundle Place Ben/Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 76
i dont see the need to throw around stereotypes. it's just a shop...there are more important things in this world. no one here is "creaming themselves" over the thought of an Apple store or suggesting a shrine to Steve Jobs.
as for not having a perception of the "real world" i can assure you i do, i just don't feel that it is a great necessity to express this on an internet forum.

This is all very interesting NOT. Can we leave this thread to construction, not this inane debate about Apple and their products.
[COM] Re: U/C: Rundle Place Ben/Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 76
Agreed. Thread clean, please.

Fair point.Pants wrote:Do we though?crawf wrote:Though we do deserve something a little better than a average generic design which ruins the entire Mall facade of Rundle Plaza.
Apple's not going to get the same exposure here as it does with its NY, London or Sydney flagship stores so why not give use the same generic design that much larger cities in the world have?
I suspect with Apple, it's a simple proposition: We make squillions by keeping our design parameters tight. If you can work within them, great, if you can't, we'll go to the next city or site that's biting our arm off to have us there.
If the powers that be at the Mall are serious about it being the city's premier retail strip, they'll make this happen.
The Advertiser article's wrong too, Rundle Mall doesn't require balconies, but awnings. If we don't allow Apple in because they don't want an awning, that's madness.
The main issue I have is that it totally destroys an already average Mall facade, it just doesn't look right. Though if this was proposed as a stand-alone development elsewhere along the mall then it wouldn't be so bad.
Some other Australian stores
Perth CBD store
Possible future Brisbane store
Chadstone suburban store
And the holy grail Sydney

Yeah, get what you're saying Crawf and the Perth store shows a precedent of a store with an awning so things might not all be lost, even though the end result for Adelaide might be tinged with some disappointment.
It's a shame that the store's not going in an existing heritage building like the old Borders site and it's a shame that as it stands, it'll make a bland facade even more bland and disjointed to top it off, but if that's the only mall site Apple's interested in, and I assume they've been chased for years, I think there needs to be reasonable concessions made.
Mutt, the only thing more annoying than blinkered Apple fan boys are blinkered Apple haters who can't seem to accept that there are reasons, beyond slavish cult following, behind why Apple products have sold in their 100s of millions at least and dismiss anyone who buys them as a techno-moron who's drunk on Steve Jobs's Kool-Aid.

and still you speak of this apple store, and the above poster even refers to it as a holy grailPants wrote:Yeah, get what you're saying Crawf and the Perth store shows a precedent of a store with an awning so things might not all be lost, even though the end result for Adelaide might be tinged with some disappointment.

[COM] Re: U/C: Rundle Place Ben/Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 76
everyone understands why Apple sells well. they are easy to use, basic,no fuss products that are fairly reliable.
good on them....
but the proposed façade of the building is still fairly bland.

I referred to the Sydney store as the 'holy grail' in more of a joking way. It's a massive 3-level store which includes some cool features that has made it become a tourist hotspot in their city. The Sydney store is by far the largest Apple store in the country, and probably one of the biggest in the world.
Adelaide's future store won't be near as big.
[COM] Re: U/C: Rundle Place Ben/Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 76
Sydney is the only International city in this country, therefore it's the only Apple store that needs to be done to a high standard.. It's the same with any major international brand, and it's the same in other countries, for example; a certain brands store in London will be much bigger and done to a higher standard than their Liverpool store..
It will be great to get the Apple store and hopefully other international brands in Adelaide, but dont expect their stores to be like their ones in International cities like Sydney, London or New York. Yes, the Apple Store design could have been better integrated into the building (which is still being built), but It's better than nothing I suppose, and it might not be that bad when it's actually built. Personally, I'd rather see the Apple store opening down on the Riverbank, along with lots of new cafes, bars and some other retail.. that's a certain way to draw people to that precinct

Big deal they don't want awnings. So what?
Are we going to start knocking developments and new retail now because of minor things like that?
We have the worlds biggest tech company wanting to open a stand alone store in our city, and all you lot can find to talk about is whether the bloody facade of the store will have awnings or not?
It's a trivial matter people, get over it and let the topic get on track.

For a precinct like Rundle Mall the buildings having awnings is a big deal, it makes it a lot more pedestrian friendly.rev wrote:Big deal they don't want awnings. So what?

Check out the link posted earlier, quite a few of their store fronts do have awnings. If they don't think it makes business sense to put their store in a place like Rundle Mall that's their choice, however they aren't significant enough to be worth trashing the rules over.
