[COM] Torrens Footbridge | $40m
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment
I don't mind it but I'm glad it's not the final design. It needs more creativity put towards it, like an interesting roof structure with fancy LED lighting. So then it can light up the area and become an icon for the new Riverbank Precinct.
I would also like to see a restaurant and bar facility wrapped around the northern end of the bridge to capture those city views. The northern riverbank needs something like this.

I agree about the restaurant/cafe on the northern bank. There is nothing really looking back at the city other than red ochre down the road, but it's a bit too far to make the most of the views.

Something like the Kurilpa Bridge?crawf wrote:I don't mind it but I'm glad it's not the final design. It needs more creativity put towards it, like an interesting roof structure with fancy LED lighting. So then it can light up the area and become an icon for the new Riverbank Precinct.

The funniest location I've seen for a restaurant is not on a bridge or at the end of one, but on a pedestrian bridge pier in the middle of the Yarra River in Melbourne:

Hrm, I fear I'm alone here, but I really like it...?
It's subtle and elegant without dominating the landscape (ie - if it was bigger/grander, it'd stick out like dogs balls and because of where it is, I think it'd take away from the postcard view rather than add to it).
Love the curve... love the water feature (sweetener?) at the end... love the little mini-ampitheatre it appears to create - great views back to the city.
Also love the little path they show directly along the river. I can't stand that hideous bitumen thing that's there now - hardly enticing.
Pretty good outcome as far as I'm concerned.

I wasnt expecting it to be curved, I like it, however having seen this, i wish it would continue back across the lake toward the rotunda and form a semi-circle in plan which could then promote the upgrade of the torrens and a really awesome lighting/water fountain in the middle of the lake. This would also allow people from the eartern side of the cbd to come down to the oval without having to walk across the king william st bridge with the cars and then back around to the plaza behind the southern stand. just a thought, will never happen, as that will cost more money.Nathan wrote:

only question i have is how are they illuminating the bridge at nght the walking path, i gather its included in the handrails i take it, as there is no visible lighting posts along it.

I mentioned that in my submission, no night time renders.
Big white glossy bridge lends itself to night-time colour!

I agree with Matt!
I love the elegence of the curve, the white exterior and the LED & waterfall features.
If they kept this design with only small functional changes, i would be happy.

Oh no! I accidentally read AdelaideNow comments.
Lol at people genuinely complaining about the lack of cover on the bridge. Good lord people, it's a walk way. You can use an umbrella for the 2 minutes it takes to walk across.
