We don't need to emulate Melbourne in everything especially as they don't know what sunshine is. Look to Hong Kong for a change - it's criss-crossed with covered walkways that are being used by pedestrians rain or shine to move across the city. And not everybody carries a brollie on a clear 40 degrees day.

It's Adelaide, not London. It pisses down here DAILY and I can't think of a single pedestrian bridge that's covered.

Lol at people genuinely complaining about the lack of cover on the bridge. Good lord people, it's a walk way. You can use an umbrella for the 2 minutes it takes to walk across.

yeah but given there'll be maybe 20 odd thousand crossing it on matchday i can imagine the nanny police putting up signs saying no umbrellas allowed on the bridge!

I actually really like it! My only concern is how lit up the bridge will be in the dark? I just hope there's enough light because I can't see any lamp posts on it? I like the idea of using LED's though, can't wait to see this complete. I also agree that you don't want something to big otherwise it would just take away from the view.

What is the obsession with people worried about getting a little wet or sun light. I can't think of any river bridges that have protection from the elements.

Bistro in the southern end , this was released with the riverbank master plan. Now we just need a restaurant/bar on the other side..

I don't mind it but I'm glad it's not the final design. It needs more creativity put towards it, like an interesting roof structure with fancy LED lighting. So then it can light up the area and become an icon for the new Riverbank Precinct.

I would also like to see a restaurant and bar facility wrapped around the northern end of the bridge to capture those city views. The northern riverbank needs something like this.

I was thinking something similar to the Webb Bridge in Melbourne.. But I do like the Kurilpa Bridge.


But after giving it more thought, I'm torn. A canopy could ruin that postcard shot of riverbank from the King William St Bridge.

I also like the draft footbridge design, although the waterfall could look tacky if not done well. Also question whether they have included lighting (not the under bridge 'blue' illumination, but lighting for pedestrians crossing at night).

While the footbridge I've still yet to make a judgement on, I do quite like the waterfall feature at the other end which will make for a nice and calming effect synonomous with the natural allure of the river's northern bank.

Whilst I'm not fussed about protection from the elements on the footbridge itself (bring a bloody umbrella!) I do have concerns for the lack of lighting? Maybe they will illuminate the footbridge at the ground level - think what they've done with the walkway on the South Road Tram Overpass - rather than from above, like streetlights.

The blue lighting beneath will compliment the existing lighting on Morphett Street Bridge. Perhaps its time some were also installed beneath the KWS bridge?
