I reckon we would have a better chance with scoot than AirAsiaX.

Reasons:
AirAsia now has close ties with MAS and may not want to cannibalise their route.
AirAsiaX (the long haul division) is being wound back, or at least not growing anywhere near as fast as the AirAsia network.
Limited slots at KLIA until new LCCT is built.

What i *Hope* is that the extra Singapore Airlines flights are some sort of strategy to build up the route so that the extra flights can be scaled back and replaced with Scoot instead.

New CX product heads to Adelaide

Cathay Pacific will introduce its new business, economy and premium economy product on flights to Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth from August.

Services to and from Brisbane are next in line from October, with Cairns to follow from January.

The carrier upgraded its Sydney services earlier this year.

Premium economy fares to Hong Kong start from $2230 from Perth.

It would be good to have Air Asia here in Adelaide.... a $600 return flight to Singapore would be
great.

Much cheaper than that currently if you are a member of Scoot-$99 air fare from Sydney to Singas on offer!

Tourism supremo says South Australia must win more flights from China

THE head of Tourism Australia wants China's airlines to fly direct to Adelaide to capitalise on a surge in interest from world's most populous nation.

Andrew McEvoy said the There's nothing like Australia advertising campaign launched in China last month, which includes scenes from Kangaroo Island, had been downloaded 20 million times worldwide, 18 million of those in China.

He said South Australia had all the drawcards, but received just 19,000 Chinese travellers last year.

"SA has an incredibly wonderful natural environment. But SA needs (air) capacity," Mr McEvoy said.

"Chinese carriers will make the big difference."

Tourism growth from China, which has a population of more than 1.3 billion, has soared.

Chinese travellers have become the biggest spenders in Australia - last year putting $3.6 billion into the national economy, up 15 per cent from 2010.

This may have been talked about and addressed pages back, but I'm not sure(and it's 2am and I don't feel like digging through older posts, I'm lazy..)
I keep hearing that Singapore Airlines is going to stop flying to Adelaide, well heard it from three different people who heard it from other people, but none of the three know where the other people heard it from.
So, anyone know whats going on?
Singapore Airlines has been flying to Adelaide longer then I've been alive. In recent years as we all know they've increased flights to and from Adelaide.
Any solid information would be good so I can go back and tell these people what's really happening and dismiss the rumors going around, and hopefully the truth spreads rather then tenth hand information that has more deviations then a game of Chinese whispers.

You'd have to think that China Southern will start flying to Adelaide in the not-too-distant future. The airline already flies to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, and is starting Cairns in October. They've increased services to Australia from 10 two years ago to 31 now, and are on the record as saying that will rise to 55 within three years. Just a matter of time, I reckon.

Other international carriers such as Malaysia and QANTAS are struggling more than Singapore. Yes, they do have competition (now even more with Emirates), but why would they drop Adelaide completely? Singapore Airlines are a shrewd outfit. For the time being I wouldn't worry about it as Adelaide is still an emerging market. As noted above about a link to China (Shanghai, Guangzhou, etc.). That will happen eventually and it's only a matter of when not if, and yes, our next airline could easily be China Southern. Singapore Airlines won't be out of the equation though, just like their Chinese counterparts, they'll play a pivotal role in bringing Chinese and SE Asian visitors to us. What these other people have said, I don't know. Maybe they are speculating that their low-cost offshoot Scoot might take over. I doubt that very much. That's my opinion.

Just for the record. Air NZ are changing their livery. The NZ Herald reports from next year they are dropping the teal for all-black. That means we might be seeing the white koru on all-black tails here in Adelaide soon!

Some great news from Singapore Airlines. Two flights daily -- not yet scheduled, but sounds like a pretty firm intention:

SINGAPORE Airlines aims to have two flights a day, every day, through Adelaide Airport and the new flights on schedules that will boost South Australian tourism and business travel.

Subhas Menon, Singapore Airlines vice-president for South-West Pacific, says Adelaide still has room for growth in international air services, despite airline giant Emirates entering the SA market. On a flying visit to Adelaide last week, Mr Menon told The Advertiser that the extra three flights a week started by Singapore Airlines this month, on top of its existing daily services, making 10 a week, were a sign of things to come. The three new flights provide daytime travel from Singapore to Adelaide in addition to the traditional overnight flight south.

Mr Menon says the new schedule makes it far more attractive for connections from destinations into Singapore, particularly from Europe and West Asia.

"Inbound has been a challenge with our Adelaide flights until now," he says of most of the airline's Adelaide route carrying South Australians out and bringing them home when the SA tourism industry would prefer more international visitors be coming in. "The new (flight) times gives connectivity," he says of the convenience of stepping on to daytime flights to Adelaide in the main Singapore hub.

"We don't want to stop at three a week," he says of the additional flights. "We want to have two a day (every day)."

Mr Menon says the 5pm departure from Adelaide heading to Singapore also provides quicker connections in Singapore that night for flights to Europe. He says that Singapore Airlines did not jump too soon with its new flights only to discover Emirates will start with four a week to Adelaide in November, going to daily flights in February.

"We have been in Adelaide a long time. We have had a progressive development. The Emirates flights to Adelaide are further testimony that Adelaide has developed.

"Adelaide could be a gateway city in its own right," he says of international tourism to Australia. "We are already promoting South Australia overseas. We have a strong relationship with the SA Tourism Commission."

Meanwhile, Hugh Chevrant-Breton has returned to Adelaide as SA manager for Singapore Airlines. He was state manager here until early 2005 and has since worked in New Zealand and most recently in the airline's Sydney office as manager of industry affairs.

Mr Chevrant-Breton says the 5pm departures from Adelaide will better suit SA exporters of perishables, who could deliver straight to Adelaide Airport that day. Singapore Airlines' dedicated weekly cargo aircraft stopped calling to Adelaide last year but the airline says 10 passenger flights a week, with space in the Airbus A330 to carry freight, gave greater cargo volume a week, and much better flexibility for SA exporters.

With Emirates (finally) making the move, it's now Singapore Airlines' turn to make the countermove. Subhas Menon sees our future potential..."a gateway in its own right!" As I mentioned earlier to Rev, Adelaide is still an emerging market, and what Singapore Airlines are thinking of doing is a logical step in that direction. With twice daily flights SIA will be able give its passengers better service for flights to/from Europe and to/from Asia (Middle East, India, China and SE Asia). Now I would love to see MAS do something similar. When you hear reports like the one a week ago about MAS looking at a second A380 for Australia, to Melbourne, you know there's still some hope.

Yes I know, what I meant was match the same frequency that Singapore Airlines is planning, twice daily seven-days a week.
