The Ginos Group has proposed splitting two existing cinemas, which currently resemble bare shells, into four state-of-the-art gold-class theatres with a new candy bar.
Each intimate theatre will seat between 40 and 50 patrons and screen the latest Hollywood blockbusters.
Patrons will gain access to the theatre from a repaved and upgraded Arcade Lane, which will feature a new balcony, canopy, landscaping, plus lifts and stairs to take patrons to the first-floor cinemas.
I find it amusing that so many people on AdelaideNow are complaining about the cost of parking. Saying why would anyone pay to park to watch a movie.
I am sure anyone going to Gold Class would not care too much about the cost of parking.

I think this move for a select Gold Class cinema is the way to go. I travel from Modbury, I live next to TTP, to go to Marion for Gold Class.
The city will make it much easier.

The Adelaide Now comments do not surprise me. I read in the recent 5000+ report that Adelaide has the highest number of carparks of any capital city (that is actual not per capita basis). I think the figure was something like 41,000 carpark spaces, the next largest was 29,000ish. Anyway, poor planning has led to Adelaidian's having a small town, drive everywhere mentality, but in a large city. This is clearly not sustainable.

Lots of interior work happening at Fletcher Jones this week - heard rumours about retail/cafe at ground level and office space above.

I can't even remember where Fletcher Jones is/was. Is that on Hindley Street?

It's on the corner of Hindley and Peel streets. IIRC, the Ginos Group, which led the renewal of Leigh Street, has bought up most of Peel Street and is embarking on a similar revival.

I've been noticing a change in real estate advertising of late with classical 'office' spaces being offered up as residential accommodation. Here's a couple of examples. You'd need to throw in a couple of hundred thou extra to finish them off.

A whole floor above peel street! awesome: http://www.urbanedge.com.au/current-project.html

and this on KWS - top floor & roof! http://www.realestateview.com.au/Real-E ... 87545.html
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I knew it was up there, but have never been. They often had people downstairs trying to get patrons in. But the entrance made it sound tacky, nothing like what was up there. Shame as they haven't been trading long from what I understand.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

Spot on SRW. So many great laneways/character buildings in that part of the CBD - I used to dream of living in the T&G penthouse. Hope Gilbert Place gets the same treatment.

I never ever knew there was a restuarant there either! Are you sure there were people downstairs trying to encourage people to go up?

Well spotted, Wayno. This is an interesting trend (if it continues).

Like the idea of a shell and then convert to your taste. Eg Peel St. Residential floors. This should appeal to folk who want something different from a contemporary apartment block. Your own floor - lift security, small block, heritage/retro look, ability to customize/personalize to suit your taste. Central location.

This should bring back more life to the city, especially the night time population, adding to the vibrancy of the city and diversity and feasibility of services for residents, workers and visitors.

Cost - how is this model of development/renewal/refurbishment likely to compare to city apartments off the shelf?
No (car) parking could limit the market but this is likely to be an increasing trend in the future? Improved public transport, greater use of bicycles and scooters, a walking city with taxis, shared pool of cars for occasional use?

In addition to this, the rejuvination of Peel Street appears to be forging ahead, as there is a liquor licence application for a bar titled "clever little tailor" to open at 19 Peel Street.
