That Qantas plane...what a scarey manoeuvre!
As for the apartment block. Hard to make a real affirmative decision on the renderings alone. The design that was posted earlier wasn't that bad. Need to know more about the materials used. From what we have I wouldn't say no.
Cheers

looks alright, good height for that part of the city.
I bet the local residents living in town houses next door will complain about how this "skyscraper" will ruin the character of their area

I'm a bit lukewarm to this one. It's not great. I much prefer the old Space Apartments proposal for this site, but taller.

Passable. As long as there's no impact on the Grace Emily.

The DAC are expected to approve this at Thursdays meeting.

As a regular of the Grace Emily I can't see anyone having trouble with big developments in the area, so long as the people moving into them aren't NIMBY about the fact they are moving next to one of the best live music venues in town.monotonehell wrote:NIMBY!Nathan wrote:Passable. Yesterday morning I was walking down Flinders Street, and was surprised to see a jet passing relatively low over the old Reserve Bank Building, heading south-east. Considering the talk in one of these threads last week about planes not needing to pass over the CBD, it took me by surprise.Ho Really wrote:That Qantas plane...what a scarey manoeuvre!

Services: ArchitectureThe $60 million development on 231-243 Waymouth Street, comprises of retail, commercial, hotel and residential uses with ancillary car parking. It is Adelaide's first project to be approved under the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) Pre-lodgement service.
A mix of accommodation types are proposed ranging from single and two bedroom apartments, to short stay hotel rooms. Accessible and adaptable housing outcomes will also be targeted in lower levels of the residential buildings.
The site went through an interactive design process to ensure locality was considered and the built form responded to its strategic context within Waymouth Street and Adelaide. The design provides two visually distinct building elements, a residential tower to the east and a hotel tower to the west.
Materials break assist in defining the functions of the towers, by using a vibrant gold cladding for the hotel tower, while a pattern referencing vertical and horizontal lines from the adjoining streetscape has been used as a contextual screen to the residential tower.
An esoteric adaptation of the geometry of the building, and the relationship between solid and void, has created a unique and interesting façade typology which responds to its locality.
The consolidation of the tower elements allows for sunlight and natural ventilation to permeate the site and its surrounds. The provision of natural light, solar access, rainwater and fresh air are all driving factors in the development and have influenced the general arrangement of the built form on the site.

Thanks Ben. So Tangcheng still have this?
[CAN] Re: PRO: 231-243 Waymouth Street | 65m | 20lvls | Mixed Use
Not sure if it's anything to be concerned about, but Tangcheng Group have packed up their office at the corner of Waymouth St/ Nth Tce.
No mention of any change on their website though. Hopefully they're relocating or doing up the offices.
Just concerns me that a couple of their proposals have gone quiet, namely KWS site.....
