[COM] Re: PRO: SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion
I believe this is another very important piece to the puzzle. Personally I'm not much of a gambler and neither are too many of my mates back in Adelaide. I would imagine that there would be some pretty snazzy bars and nightclubs, therefore without focussing on problem gamblers its going to be awesome for those whom just like a good drink with a nice view.
I cant think of another city in Australia that has so many big pieces of infrastructure, culture and education within a 1 km radius. Adsy oval, convention centre, festival centra, art galleries and museums, two universities, the new hospital and now a new casino. Its going to look pretty sweet and once Rundle mall/ VIc square are revamped too, Adelaide's going to really be on its way.

If the casino backs out of the expansion... the concessions from the government are also withdrawn, yes?
[COM] Re: PRO: SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion
I'd say it's a fairly "world class" developement. No one in Melbourne would question if Crown is a world class casino, and yet this developement looks to bring our casino up to at least that standard. As for the punters that are inside...well lets hope they do something about the dress code, because track pants and runners seem to have become formal attire in Adelaide.dj_fishy wrote:From the initial renders and information at hand - I'm rather underwhelmed. The site has a lot of potential and I don't really see anything overly new in this proposal except a generic extension and a new hotel. Am I missing elements that make this "world class"?

Love the renders and plans. Getting up to scratch with Crown and Star is a must.

You are right Ray; we shouldn't try to catch up with them - we should aim at making something better.RayRichards wrote:And why should it be a must????.......ChillyPhilly wrote:Love the renders and plans. Getting up to scratch with Crown and Star is a must.

That rooftop recreation area would also be the perfect place to incorporate an infinity-edge pool overlooking the Torrens and parklands beyond. Would be a pretty sexy thing. Something like the infinity pool at the Sands Skypark (Marina Bay casino) in Singapore. Ok the view wouldnt be as spectacular but it would still be pretty darn nice.
I'd also like that rooftop area to incorporate a nice bar and restaurant to take advantage of the view. Adelaide has precious little dining with an elevated view in the city. Perhaps overlooking the night-lit infinity pool in the foreground (so there is still a decent view at night when the parklands are all dark) with Torrens and parklands in the background. Casino designers are you listening???

Can imagine there isn't enough usable floor space with this design.tezzy74 wrote:I miss this design. What happened to it?

Whilst the old design was definetly interesting and unique, it wasn't the best. There are far too many blank walls and doesn't really do well to compliment existing structures, particularly the Festival Theatre. The new design, I believe, strikes the right balance between making a statement in its own right as a building, but does well to compliment the heritage of existing structures, particurly the Adelaide Railway Station.

To be as good as Crown Casino it would have to at least have cinemas, lots of shops, nightclubs, and 2 food courts plus other entertainment and spectacular water and fire features. So far I haven't seen any suggestion that they're even thinking of such things.
[COM] Re: PRO: SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion | $300m
From what I understand there is a proposal to include cinemas as part of the redevelopment (or in a seperate redevelopment altogether of the Adelaide Railway Station Building itself). I am sure that the expansion will include nightclubs and eateries at the ground level, with the expanded casino and hotel rooms located in the levels above - it's pretty stock standard for casinos these days, new or existing ones being redevelope, to include other attractions than just being purely a casino.pushbutton wrote:To be as good as Crown Casino it would have to at least have cinemas, lots of shops, nightclubs, and 2 food courts plus other entertainment and spectacular water and fire features. Were water features decided to be added in the final plan? That is something which is highly impressive in my eyes and not present in Adelaide.
