That new K-Mart is awful. The store doesn't even do the location justice.

what is so awful about it?

of all the people I've talked to about it, only people on this forum don't like it.

perhaps we are not it's target market?

I've been in there a few times and they've not had what I need. It seems that they've decided to make it a limited range metro store but have failed to work out what products to stock that will sell in that location. I;m sure they will improve with time as they work out what kinds of things people want from them. Target went through a similar period when they first opened on Rundle Street.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

My wife is a Kmart fan (one point where we disagree!), but she wasn't impressed at all by the city store. Found it cluttered and lacking.

that is fair enough

I read it is their first attempt so it will be interesting to see how it changes over time

you would hope they would be getting some serious customer feedback.

I have my concerns with the "clear site line for emergency services access." Anyone been standing on KWS when a fire alarm has gone off somewhere and all lights stay on green to length of KWS to allow 4 or 5 fire trucks, spaced some time appart to roar to the usually (thankfully) false alarm? Lets hope everytime a flase alarm sounds in Rundle Mall, we dont have 4 fire trucks trundling up the newly created emergency access. Also the new fashioned 4WD ambulances rushing to someone fainting using the mall as shortcut. I understand fires in the city are of major concern, but this will need to be managed carefully, as we have managed so far without the need for emergency services using the mall as a thouroughfare.

I also can't understand what the planners are thinking. Maybe it will end up being an improvement but it certainly doesn't sound too good so far.

The plans themselves look fantastic and I for one applaud the removal of that ghastly fountain outside Adelaide Arcade.
Long overdue.

I'm a fan of the heritage fountain and would like to see it returned to the North Terrace Boulevarde, from where it was removed in 1976.

Put it on the garden strip on North Terrace outside Government House.

Why not lower the masonry wall, (could add railings above) or push the wall back, carving a semi-circle out in which to set the fountain as a feature - with lighting to highlight this lovely old fountain?

I think North Terrace is a more appropriate location, in line with its heritage, than Rundle Mall. Not sure why the traders are so keen to keep it in its current location.

That hideous fountain certainly won't be missed by me. I'm just sorry they're not taking the opportunity to also lose those embarrassing pigs.

I agree. For a city that wants to compete with the best, pigs don't work. :|

It always amuses me that some people are embarrassed by the pigs. What's with the swine hatred? Seems to be a cringe based on misguided notions of sophistication. I mean, for goodness' sake, they're charming and whimsical sculptures, not actual pigs. No harm in that. IMO, the pigs are, along with the Roy Rene statue on Hindley Street, some of the most personable and successful examples of public art in Adelaide.

I'm with you SRW, there's nothing wrong with the pigs. I accept that they're not my particular taste, but can see that for a lot of people, it's an engaging piece of public art. There are things in this city to cringe at, but bronze pigs aren't one of them.

For people studying psychology, this post is a classic example of an inferiority complex.
