Sounds like a good outcome to me; St Pauls is something worth preserving but it has fallen on hard times recently. Hopefully this will keep most people happy most of the time and show that there's place both for development and heritage. Will wrote:A major sore point for many members regarding this development was the loss of the Jade Monkey.
However, there is good news, as the Jade Monkey has found a new home. The Jade Monkey will soon open again at the old St. Paul's rectory at 142-160 Flinders Street.

Jade monkey closer to rebirth
Friday, 7 December 2012
Author: Liam Mannix, Indaily
LIVE music venue the Jade Monkey may be reborn in Flinders St, after a liquor licence application was filed for a former nightclub venue on the street.
An application for a special circumstances liquor licence with entertainment consent for 142-160 Flinders St - known by most locals as the St Paul's site - is listed in today's public notices section in the Advertiser.
The venue is to be known as the Jade Monkey, according to the listing.
The owner of the former Jade Monkey, Zac Coligan, confirmed to Indaily he was behind the application but declined to comment further.
The liquor licence application is listed to be heard on Tuesday, January 8.
The licence says the venue will open:
8am-1am Monday and Tuesday
8am-3am Wednesday
8am-4am Thursday to Saturday
8am to 1am Sunday
The venue at 142-160 Flinders St is a former Catholic rectory - a residence for a priest. It was given heritage listing in 2001, according to the State Government's heritage database.
The site sits on the corner of Pulteney St and Flinders St and was previously the venue of nightclub Heaven The Return, which closed in February after going into administration with large debts.
At the time, Heaven's administrators blamed restricted trading hours for the venue's demise.
Complaints from local residents forced the club to agree to stop live entertainment no later than 1am and close its doors no later than 3am.
Coligan's personal Facebook page hints that the new venue may be open before the New Year - even though that would be before the liquor licence hearing.

Awesome. Another positive development for Adelaide during these tough times.

Hopefully we can all move on now. Cant wait to see this ones progress from the mall and Hindmarsh Square. I wonder if they will still meet their target of Feb 2014. Seemingly unlikely but who knows.

So we're now deleting comments contrary to "hotel is awesome"?

Must say I never noticed that building in the centre of that shot before. Looks like it has some character and hopefully one day will house something other than an office.

The whole street had a huge amount of character heritage streetscape...it has considerably less now. A huge shame work commitments knocked out myself and the rest of the 4ACTIVE Adelaide group, we had a lot of support at all levels and a fantastic plan for the street. But let's face it, anything other than a vacant block was a fantastic plan.Ben wrote:Must say I never noticed that building in the centre of that shot before. Wow, Adelaide's pumping now...I can feel the vibe.

A development of this size normally takes 18 months. Middle of next year is a likely finish date.

Great to see it actually getting under way - will also fill in HSQ as well. More people in the CBD as well.
