I really hope this project helps give the area a better look and feel than now whereby it is ugly area and waste of precious land close to City. With regular public transport including buses, trains and trams all within less than 5 minutes walk it can become a mini Green Square. Add to that many areas getting redeveloped around the area which will breathe new life into the west

It's all just civil works at the moment, which are expected to finish in March. Construction of the Stage One apartments and terraces would logically begin after that.

I've heard somewhere that the plan is to bring the train line under the Bowden development. Does anyone have more information about this? Have they made a rough plan of how far this tunnel would go?

Yes, this has been discussed a bit before. It's part of the Torrens Junction project (which had federal money allocated in conjunction with the currently in progress Goodwood Junction work).

The primary purpose is to remove the crossover of the freight and Outer Harbour lines, just to the north of the rail bridge over the Torrens (Bowden is just a bonus). The line would then continue on underneath Park Tce (removing the major level crossing), and continue underground until immediately after Chief St. This would remove additional level crossings at Gibson St and East St. The Bowden station would be replaced by an underground station, First St realigned along the former line, and a pedestrian/cycle bridge over Park Tce where the level crossing currently is. The undergrounding also frees up space for the planned upgrades of that area of Bonython Park.

Strangely though, despite having the money already set aside for it, things have been very quiet. It's possible it's on the back burner until the Outer Harbour line is electrified.

Construction of the Goodwood Junction underpass commenced in January 2013, and is expected to be completed September 2013.

Construction of the Wayville Station commenced in May 2013 and is expected to be completed in November 2013.

and I think we should be expecting that after September 14, all "wasteful" federal rail spending into SA will be slashed by Prime Minister Tony Abbott. :?

Remember, this is primarily a freight rail project, with the secondary benefit of removing a major level crossing at Park Tce. The passenger rail benefits are just nice side-effects.

The Federal Coalition parties are well on record that they will provide no funding for metropolitan rail, but they do have a history of funding large national rail projects such as the Alice-Darwin railway. There is no reason to suggest as this is a project aimed at increasing freight efficiency that they would remove the funding. However, when/if the Libs win the Federal election and invariably "find" trillions of debt, all bets on everything could be off. Lets hope not, the underground station will definitely add to the appeal of this development,

It kinda seems Australia ebbs and flows depending on who is in power. I've never paid much notice to politics, but I know of Howard's "Australia Fire Sale", which brang back millions, by virtue of selling off everything and privatising what wasn't quite ready to leave Australian hands. I guess that's the difference between Labor and Liberal, huh?

I believe construction of the first buildings has commenced a few days ago. I haven't driven past recently though.

Correct. The Rossdale Homes apartment building is the first one underway, with the other stage 1 buildings not far behind. I know the ACDEV apartments have a builder appointed (Mossop) and pretty sure Systembuilt is gearing up for their 12 terraces.

Construction work starts on first homes in 2400-home Bowden Urban Village

CONSTRUCTION work has begun on the first homes in the 2400-home Bowden Urban Village.

The development is expected to include cafes, open-space areas and an underground train station.

A spokesman for Renewal SA - the State Government department managing the project - said 44 of the 60 homes released in the project's first stage had been sold since they were released to the market in December.
