Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Does anyone know if the wires are actually going up in the Adelaide yard? Or is that going to be yet another closure (or night work) ?
Not sure if trolling or just doesn't understand how crummy solar is without subsidies.PeFe wrote:I have a question regarding the electrification of the Adelaide rail network.....Has there been any thoughts or plans to supplement the power supply to the newly electrified network by solar power? What I am thinking of is 4 or 5 mini solar power stations dotted along each railway line pumping energy in to power the network.....too expensive?....too impractical?...I am sure someone here can answer this question. Also has this been tried anywhere else in the world? (Spain?)

How is the wiring work being done across South Road/Cross Road? Will the intersection be closed for a night or something?

Solar, In SA our Government likes the Wind (Since they blow so much of it). The Stanvac Traction Power Substation is being built right next to the desal plant connection (Desal plant locked into a wind contract). The New Substation built by Electranet at Keswick last year is also designed to feed the electric Rail Network (This station has a direct link with the Torrens Island power plant).muzzamo wrote:Does anyone know if the wires are actually going up in the Adelaide yard? All we need now are a few wind turbines were set up on Parliament House, and we would never be out of power again
Im guessing a couple of night closures for Emerson Crossing. One for the Track to be Relaid, and one for wiring to be connected. The Overhead will be one of the last things in place thou.Eurostar wrote:How is the wiring work being done across South Road/Cross Road? Will the intersection be closed for a night or something?

Night work most likely, but they won't need to stop any services because they won't be using half the platforms over the next few monthsmuzzamo wrote:Does anyone know if the wires are actually going up in the Adelaide yard? Or is that going to be yet another closure (or night work) ?

They will probably be able to work around a full closure, by doing it piece by piece, and only doing they platforms they need initially.muzzamo wrote:Does anyone know if the wires are actually going up in the Adelaide yard? Or is that going to be yet another closure (or night work) ?

Some good details in the following article about the completed work during the Adelaide Station closure.

TRAIN services at Adelaide Railway Station will resume on Monday after the completion of a $50 million upgrade ahead of the introduction of electric train services.
Up to 20,000 train commuters on the Gawler, Grange and Outer Harbor lines are expected to once again travel directly into the city centre after the month-long closure of the railway station.
As part of the upgrade, Grange passengers will no longer need to change trains at Woodville.
However, Adelaide's first electric rail services - which will travel on the Noarlunga line between Seaford and the station - will not take place until the end of this year or early 2014.

Hi All, A Photographic update of the works on the Noarlunga (and the Rest of the Belair) Lines.
All track is now pulled up,Apart from the Marion to Ascot Park section (over the two bridges)which has "Restricted Area" signage.
Looking towards Oakland from Marion
From the Sixth Ave level crossing towards Tonsley Junction. This site is under the "Siemens/John Holland Traction Power" contract at th moment. Guessing its a feeder station site for the Electric overhead???
Cutting out the embankment at the site of the New Wayville Station.
Carving out a New pedestrian path under Anzac Highway(Part of the New Wayville Station)
Keswick Station works
New Rail roof over the Mile End Subway.
Drainage works on Platforms 3 & 4 Mile End.
Sleeper installation under the Port Rd Bridge. And the view North and South off the Bridge.

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
They closed three Adelaide Railway Station for a month and I notice that the replacement of the rail tracks actually stops short of the railway station itself by about 150m or so. The tracks in the station itself still have the old ballast and wooden sleepers. Why was this not replaced?

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Are there actually any public plans/ renders of the new woodville station?
