I wonder if they've considered putting in a massive adventure playground suitable for adults and kids somewhere in the parklands. That would be one way to get loads of people actually using the parklands, whilst still keeping it largely as open space with plenty of natural vegetation. Properly designed it could blend in beautifully.

Or they could just put in some more paths and let people walk their dogs (yawn......................). We wouldn't want people getting too excited after all. It's only Adelaide!

They opened one just a few months ago just a bit further south in Bonython Park.

Really? Well it's not been very well publicised because that's the first I've heard of it! Can you please let me know how I can access the location you're referring to, or what website I should look at to see more details?

Stage One opened in December, and includes the children's playspace and the new SAPOL road safety centre.
An adventure playspace will be part of the next stage, around the model boat pond.

In the federal budget the funds are due to come for the Goodwood and Torrens underpasses in 2016 from memory. The state government took up the Goodwood underpass from its own funds, probably from other electrification projects, so the funds that are due then will likely be used for the Torrens underpass and electrification.

Adventure playground for adults? What do you mean? Cafe's or Beers Gardens for the adults while the kids have fun on a playground..... or an oversized flying fox and slippery dip for the adults to help cure that Sunday morning hangover?

Some adults want to do more than just drink coffee and beer lol!

I'm not just talking about run of the mill slippery dips and flying foxes. I'm talking about something really amazing suitable for use by all ages (kids and adults)! It's great exercise as well as great fun, relatively inexpensive to build and maintain, and can be made free for all to use!

Something like the one at Sea World, shown in these photos.

Doesn't mean you wouldn't or shouldn't enjoy something like that ...... If a government funded or council built a playground for adults I'd think of many other ways money could be invested

The development of the parklands between the Torrens and the Gawler train line has been put out for community feedback. This will be directly opposite the Bowden TOD. Open day on February 23.

Overall looks pretty good, although I'd like a little less open space (sports field, dog area) and have some denser "woodlands" and other plantings, and more of the central spine/waterplay area (since that is positioned where the outer harbour rail line is, it will be some time before it happens. A smaller second version through the community gardens would be nice.)

Still no concrete timing on the rail line undergrounding. It's got federal funding, so not sure why timelines are so hard to come by.

I have always thought that the parklands could be divided up into themed zones.

For example you could have different areas including a Japanese Garden, an adventure playground with garden mazes etc, a wetlands area, an Australian native garden, a water garden with water features etc, a pet friendly zone, a smelly plant/flower garden, a topiary and art themed garden etc etc.

Having a number of themed areas would mean that the Parklands would become a destination and tourist attraction in their own right. To help with the cost of establishment and maintenance, businesses could sponsor or co-sponsor gardens with subtle signage that is integrated into the main entrance of each garden.
