News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council
I love the fact that she says that she loves McDonalds... irrelavent?
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council
she is trying to build credibility in her comments - i.e I like McDonalds but don't like this - so I'm not just having a pot shot a McDonalds.Norman wrote:I love the fact that she says that she loves McDonalds... irrelavent?
when in fact, she is simply continuing her NIMBY views, I 'm surprised she didn't complain it blocked views to the hills.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council
Moran has lots of supporters in the ACC region, not exclusive of those who believe they've been abducted and probed by aliens.
Whinging about bus stop advertising is just her way of keeping her cliche of supporters. She's maintaining a high profile - being seen to stand firm against all things evil (over development, commercialism, capitalism; basically any ism that doesn't involve the arts). Zero surprise factor she popped up on this issue. Nothing to be seen here. Move along.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Ok the truth be told....Councillor Moran has used the opportunity to publicly endorse McDonalds in the hope that one day they will release and she will earn royalties from the ..... Mc MORAN or possibly the McMORON!
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council
Four people complained in a 1.2M+ city. Jeez. It's something that brings colour and something original to the city. Concentrate on some real problems Moran.Cr Moran said she had received four complaints from residents about the King William St bus shelters being inappropriate next to tourist drawcards such as Parliament House and the Festival Centre.

Councillor Plumridge AM - Notes from my Desk - Special Edition
Draft Residential and Mainstreet DPA
I wouldn't usually release a special edition of my Notes but I consider that this is a very important piece of work which Council signed-off on last Tuesday (in confidence) and which warrants wide public exposure.
It is designed to complete the Development Plan for the city and will complement the Ministers' Capital City Development Plan which was gazetted earlier.

Seeing as Adelaidenow commentators are idiots i'm going to assume this means the majority of Adelaide hates them?

Its a city and we supposed to be in the 21st century, yes historic buildings should be retained but we should encourage new modern buildings, its a city not a museum, seeing buildings all looking similiar in a whole street can make the street boring, having a mix of buildings makes the street more interesting.david wrote:Councillor Plumridge AM - Notes from my Desk - Special Edition

Can't help but laugh. Lets zone the entire city as historic and rename the City to Adelaide Museum.david wrote:Councillor Plumridge AM - Notes from my Desk - Special Edition

Hopefully the first step in completely removing the Adelaide city council
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council
Councillor Plumridge and the Adelaide City Council;
How many times do you need to be reminded that whilst you may be elected by some 22,000 consituents whom reside within the Adelaide City Council boundaries, you have a responsibility to govern for 1.2 million residents in the Greater Adelaide region. The Adelaide CBD is the workplace, cultural and recreational home for these 1.2 million people, not just the 22,000 that live in the city.
When will the Adelaide City Council start governing for the masses than to be caught up in the petty and ludicrous politics of a the very select few who live in the City's South and North Adelaide? You do realise that as long as the Adelaide City Council continues to fumble and bumble along and formulate idiotic schemes such as adding 300+ properties to the local Heritage Register and formulating the Draft Residential and Main Street DPA just to pander to the interests of the select few, everyone else of the 1.2 million residents in the Greater Adelaide region will continue to lambast and percieve the Adelaide City Council as an absolute joke.
It's no wonder the State Government has taken away your rights to assess developments over $10m and are threating to reduce this threshold even further. It's no wonder people are calling for metropolitian councils to be amalgamated. It's no wonder that your actions contribute to the unwarranted ridicule we recieve from our interstate friends and families. Unfortunately it doesn't matter how proactive you may seem with doing the fantastic big-ticket things like the Splash Adelaide initiative and the Rundle Mall and Victoria Square redevelopments, such things will be overshadowed by the continued absurdity of poor planning and decision making as reflected in schemes like the Draft Residential and Main Street DPA.
Residents who live in the Adelaide CBD have simply got to learn that if they choose to live in a Capital City CBD, with that comes constant development, tall buildings, increased street activity, increased noise, less sunlight, demolishing old to make way for new, etc. For millions of people worldwide this is a growing and an accepted norm. What makes these people think they are so special? If they want little noise, no tall buildings, quiet streets, there's a place for that, it's called the suburbs, found just a few hundred metres away on the other side of the Parklands. Suprisingly, Adelaide is actually in a very fortunate position of being one of two or three cities that has a greenbelt that envelopes the city to distinctly distinguish the CBD from the suburbs. Fair enough if you live in New Farm, Brisbane or Carlton, Melbourne or Subiaco, Perth and live with the knowledge that potentially, sooner or later, development will begin to enroach into these suburbs adjacent their respective CBDs. But here in Adelaide, we shouldn't have that issue and we should have a City Council that embraces this and utilises this very fortunate position of ours and implements proper and better urban planning which fits this model to take effect. Bring on the Mayfield and Aria on Gouger developments and many more like it.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council
Just watched the latest 7:30 SA from Friday. There was a piece about the SW residents assoc and their usual complaints about building anything in their "backyard". Initially I thought oh here we go again, but then they had a few grabs of comments from John Rau. It was very good to hear his thoughts on what a capital city should be. I am so glad the SA government is now in control of the process for more of the CBD.
I also last night read through the entire council draft DPA for these residential areas. I feel it is a pity that there still is no (unless I missed it) minimum requirements for size of apartments and I had to laugh at the minimum requirements for parking. This is where the argument seems to be lost. If only all the energy for anti-development was put into requiring quality-development then it would get a lot more wide spread support.
Afterall, the former balfours site is probably a good example of what we don't want to see more of. And correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't that a council led development?
