A couple of years ago in Melbourne I actually did witness the massive vertical display near the mall (either a Telstra sign or Telstra building, can't remember which) displaying a BSOD.metro wrote:would be pretty funny if it actually was displaying the blue screen of death

Oh ok, I was worried the lantern was the cause of the fire. I keep forgetting that Hungry Jacks is there.

I heard the firies / hazmat guys coming out after they put the fire out. One said to the other, "Makes you really not want to eat there doesn't it?"Matt wrote:I think a flue caught fire in Hungry Jacks.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I still can't help but feel "What if?" about this, if they had decided to duplicate the lantern over the other side of Rundle Street, above the entrance to Target.
Reckon this would've looked awesome or tacky?
Also, does anyone have a ballpark figure of the cost of this project? I was thinking of erecting one in my backyard.

Advertising giant screens on both sides for mine. Would really make that intersection"pop". Having said that though, I saw the lantern the other Friday night flying back into Adelaide from the NE approach. Was the first time I had noticed it from the air. For some reason the skyline looks much more impressive from above. The lantern really stood out from up there and made the city look...well, like a city should.

The Entertainment Ctr also looks great at night for those on the right hand side of the cabin.claybro wrote: For some reason the skyline looks much more impressive from above. The lantern really stood out from up there and made the city look...well, like a city should.
Agree, there wouldn't be too many cities that passengers get an amazing 'free' flyover view of the city. As much as it can be a hot topic of discussion having the flight path where it is, we should use this as an opportunity to create a visual impact for those airline passengers arriving for the first time.
The Casino could almost advertise their nightly entertainment......

^This. I say even more to cover the ugly carparks.claybro wrote:Advertising giant screens on both sides for mine.

one of the carpark walls would be a perfect spot for a green wall. and if constructed appropriately it would not restrict airflow in or out.
