Who knows why the media gave them attention though, slow news day perhaps? I've seen more people doing a Harlem Shake FFS.
Annoying.
I think the Footbridge is a vital part of the upgrade of the Riverbank precinct, connecting the Adelaide Oval precinct to the southern side.
Liberal MP, Rachel Sanderson @AdelaideMP seems to like stirring up trouble/self-promotion and organizing "protests" eg against the Footbridge. This picture from @Mikeybee11 shows the small band of protesters (rent a crowd?) who turned up to her protest on the steps of Parliament House.

What is it with the MP for Adelaide (irrespective of party) like her predecessor Lomax-Smith, that they try to stymie progress in the city? They represent a small percentage of the SA population but our city caters to the needs of all SA residents and visitors to our state.

It reminds me of the kerfuffle and loud voices against the extension of the tramline, with gloomy predictions of waste and irrelevance. Well, look at how popular and successful this has been.

I look forward to the opening of the Footbridge.
Wonder if they will have some sort of celebratory event eg to raise funds for charity just prior to the official opening. I was fortunate to attend the celebratory charity event inside the Heysen Tunnels just before they were opened - great memory.
NOT impressed with Rachel Sanderson. A few months ago she sent out a form letter to all residents with a "survey". Basically it was a list of thinly veiled NIMBY/racist/crank/homophobe gripes and she expected you to tick a box. So I guess most respondents picked the NIMBY option. Popularist politics at its most disgusting.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

Thankfully the bridge will be there before this waste of space of a politician gets anywhere near a position of relevance.

They all just need to build a bridge, and get over it.

To see it's advantages.
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

not being age-ist, just observing that most/all(?) folk in that photo appear 60+ years of age.

Scared of change? wanting more cash spent on hospitals instead? too much free time? or perhaps full of wisdom?

Again i believe an influencing factor here is most folk not realizing the world is a competitive place, and not realising their anti-progress attitudes & behaviour means SA continues to bleed young people and rely on the charity of other states. $1b in GST donations to SA each year. Would be interesting to see how people's attitudes towards development changed if each & every South Aussie (man, women & child) had to fork out $667 a year ($1b divided by 1.5m population). Call it the 'SA Anti-Development Levy'.

What most people mistake for the high cost of living is actually the cost of living.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Well put Wayno, I think most of these people do realise the world is a competative place, but they dont want Adelaide to be part of the competative world. That if we start competing and progressing we might become like Sydney (god forbid). They think it creates a point of difference. Like we can live in some sort of bubble or something.

Well put Wayno, maybe your blog can get somebody thinking a bit instead of just relying on headlines and PC sound snippets when forming their opinions (I was listening to ABC radio this morning about the devilish plan to build 'hi-rise' above 3-4 stories in the metro area and almost drove off the road). Unfortunately I have been a member of the above mentioned age group (60+) for a few years now but that does in no way mean that I share the views of those backward striving people in the pic from the parliament stairs. On the contrary, I want things to start happening no later than tomorrow - otherwise there won't be any real change while I'm still around. The idea of Adelaide becoming a giant retirement village scares the **** out of me. It's with cities like people; when you stop growing you're done for.

Oh, no.
Our esteemed media leading the charge against the Footbridge -again - just in time to catch the weekend readers (dying breed?). Give it a rest!

Page 9 of today's Sunday Mail. "Footbridge underway before we get a say".

What, so 25 years wasn't long enough for people to make their opinions known? There's been talk of this bridge for at least that long and probably longer. Well here's my say. Thanks John Rau for allowing interim rezoning of the Riverbank area so the bridge can finally get underway. How much consultation do we need?

Apparently they're having a "public hearing" on April 9 so the NIMBYs can advise Mr Rau whether the rezoning should go ahead! Well it already has. I hope as much work as possible is done on the bridge before that date so there'll hopefully be no way the NIMBYs can stop it.

Can we set up a little town somewhere in the outback called Old Adelaide where nothing ever changes, and pay the NIMBYs a relocation grant?

Public consultation has already been going for some time, the latest little hissy fit is because construction has started pior to the consultation period finishing. Apparently there have been 17 written responses not in favour of the proposal mainly due to cost, the fact that 2 bridges already cross the Torrens in the area and that old chestnut "the removal of trees" These minority no life brigade have cried wolf so many times now, that nobody is listening anymore. They had their 20 minutes of fame when they stopped developement in Vic Park, now everyone just wants them to GO AWAY.

I remember when they published an article named "Tram to nowhere". Once the bridge is completed, I'm sure it'll be well and good for the moaners. Until then, more pointless articles about ten people wanting to stir up trouble.

Maybe we can all go down to Waymouth Street and picket the outside of the Advertiser complaining about crap sensationalist journalism about non issues ie the protests about the bridge. Now that would make an interesting article!
