For the record I know it's not Lino and I know what Lino is. It was my way of saying I thought it was cheap and tacky.... maybe that didn't come across

Are you sure it's real granite? it looks more like terrazzo to me.pushbutton wrote:Lino (or linoleum to give it's full name) is a very thin (2 or 3mm thick) flexible flooring which is cheap and nasty and wouldn't last more than a couple of weeks in a major mall before it was completely wrecked.
The flooring throughout most of Westfield Marion (including the yellow flooring you refer to) is granite tiles and has lasted about 10 years so far and could last much longer as it's very hard-wearing.

Yes I thought it was faux-stone or terrazzo. Hopefully the yellow is the sealant and when they strip and reseal then polish it will look nice and white again.Aidan wrote:Are you sure it's real granite? it looks more like terrazzo to me.pushbutton wrote:Lino (or linoleum to give it's full name) is a very thin (2 or 3mm thick) flexible flooring which is cheap and nasty and wouldn't last more than a couple of weeks in a major mall before it was completely wrecked.

It might be terrazzo. Not sure. It's certainly not lino though but apparently you already knew that so fair enough, Sometimes jokes don't come across properly in text. If you'd put 'lino' in inverted commas like that, I would have known exactly what you meant.
Anyway yes it is a bit of a half-hearted job there sadly.

Well it might be terrazzo, but a lot of people take it for 'granite'.pushbutton wrote:It might be terrazzo. Not sure. So, what exactly is the basic plan in this expansion? To develop along the side where the JB Hifi is, or to extend the food court area? This thread is confusing me. Hahaha. So, as someone who hasn't been to Marion in a while, I'm kinda stumped as to what the go actually is. How likely is this extension to actually happen? I'm just a little sick of these big international companies overlooking Adelaide time and time again. This makes a lot of consumers lose interest in travelling a decent distance to places like this in favor of online sales and other local specialty shops. This inturn seems to make the decision makers of these companies see Adelaide as not viable for developments/expansions, which makes them easily overlook Adelaide in favour of splashing the eastern states with more cash, thus the cycle starts again.
It just seems to be something I read on media sources (yes, even AdelaideNow, whom I skim read the headlines and then try to find out the actual facts over) that these companies are happy to set up shop in the eastern states over Adelaide. It's just annoying. [/end-rant]
But yeah, enough of that off topic crap. This expansion, can anyone explain where and when it's going to be hopefully built?

The single quotation marks I used above were scare quotes. Not in the recent media's practise of outright misquoting someone under the guise of paraphrasing.Maximus wrote:Looks like you guys have been watching too much Media Watch...monotonehell wrote:Well it might be terrazzo, but a lot of people take it for 'granite'.

It was also a geology pun (I'm sorry). As in;
"Many people walk past this large boulder without noticing it is made of schist. A lot of people take it for granite."

Yeah, which is exactly the sort of thing also discussed in that MW segment.monotonehell wrote:The single quotation marks I used above were scare quotes.
I wasn't having a go at you in my previous post. Just poking some fun and taking interest in your sidebar with Pushbutton (seeing as I just happened to watch MW last night).

I understand your intent, I wasn't upset, just highlighting what my single quotation marks meant.Maximus wrote:Yeah, which is exactly the sort of thing also discussed in that MW segment.monotonehell wrote:The single quotation marks I used above were scare quotes.

But what Media Watch was on about is an entirely different animal to scare quotes. Scare quotes are an established convention understood by most literate people. Where as this convention that's emerged in the media lately is something entirely of their own invention that isn't a convention at all. It's downright misleading. They claim to be paraphrasing, when in fact they are going much further than that.
Anyway - how's that Marion floor going?

Looks like they've done all they're doing. No sections are blocked off anymore. All they've done is dark Grey stripes between myer and David Jones, a block of it in front of the food court escalator. All around these bits is the old flooring. They've also put this Grey tiling around the stage area, and have put a white tiling inside this section.Anyway - how's that Marion floor going?
I accept they haven't polished it yet, and that will make it blend in well, but right by myer, they seem to have completely ruined it by scratching or the tiles or something. We'll post photos later.
Also it seems like the mall entrance to Bowland has been closed off with signage that Blossom will be opening soon.
Just drove aroundto the car park side, just looking in, it looks like the entire hallway to the mall was open so I'm not sure what's happening here at this stage.
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

Blossom is replacing the oxfam store. No malls are closed at this stage

Oh Ok. I didn't see the entrance to Bowland though, and I was sure this is where it was.Are they still planning to move out of the mall?
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

Bowland entrance is on the other side of best and less.
I haven't seen the exact plans but I think the mall was to go adjacent this mall from David jones to big w so it would make an L shape.

Sorry to take so long to upload. The upside-down T figure appears to actually be grinded out from the tile, and there were a number of bits like this close to Myer..
I can't see a polish redeeming this.
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!
