Good. It really is actually happening (as is Victoria Square). Both great to see, at long last. I was beginning to think neither would happen in my lifetime. Not that either are particularly exciting, but they are fairly important for the future growth of the city so I'm very glad to see this.

Looking at the photos on here, it is like they are tearing the whole city apart. The oval, hospital, riverbank and Vic SQ along with all the buildings going up,very exciting.. with all this momentum I really hope this work grabs Adelaide, shakes it up, so we never go back to the dark ages of dithering again.

Could make it a nude protest - now THAT will get their attentionclaybro wrote:Maybe we can all go down to Waymouth Street and picket the outside of the Advertiser complaining about crap sensationalist journalism about non issues ie the protests about the bridge. Now that would make an interesting article!

Will the bridge be ready by the start of the 2014 AFL season, or is it scheduled for the start of the Ashes series in 2015?

Its a 9 month major construction site, so I dare say within a couple of months of that, it will be open. So it should be open for the AFL next year,
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

Bridge itself will be open for the Ashes, however, construction will continue for minor works.rev wrote:Will the bridge be ready by the start of the 2014 AFL season, or is it scheduled for the start of the Ashes series in 2015?

Agree. Good to see the footbridge taking shape, albeit early stages.Matt wrote: Great pic... looking forward to more as it progresses.
Can't wait to see it finished and the naysayers put back in their box as it proves to be an extremely popular addition to the Riverbank precinct upgrade.
A local radio station has been taking suggestions for naming the footbridge eg after local sporting (football, cricket) stars. One caller suggested a generic Legends of Sport, or similar, rather than name it after one particular person (would aways be contentious).
This of course looks at the sporting connection. It could recognize the arts/cultural side, aboriginal heritage, founding father, important South Australian - male or female or some sort of metaphor?
The issue of naming the bridge reminded me of that other smaller footbridge near the Zoo, for which the ACC had a naming competition (as discussed in this forum). Did they finally come up with a name?
Any thoughts on naming the footbridge under construction?
