Adelaide BMW operator Adelaide Motors has been awarded the prized Ferrari dealership and is finalising plans for a new state-of-the-art, stand-alone showroom.

Adelaide Motors director Kym McInerney would not reveal the location of the new showroom but said its design had been approved by Ferrari headquarters in Maranello.
However, The Advertiser understands the company's Suburban Taxi site at the western end of Hindley St is being proposed for the new development, expected to open later this year.

Great for Adelaide. As also Porsche on Glen Osmond Road is expanding their site. To allow more cars, and i think Lamborghini and Maserati aswell.

I think the car park is being done before but don't quote me on it!

Some of these car showrooms look very nice. I especially love the new Lexus showroom on West Terrace.

Mercure Grosvenor revamp to draw business tourists
THE general manager of the Mercure Grosvenor Adelaide hopes a $2.5 million revamp will position the historic hotel for a larger share of Adelaide's business traveller market.
The first stage of the project is complete - an upgrade of the hotel's 181 4-star rooms which includes new bathrooms in each room. Ben Patten, the general manager of the 93-year-old hotel which also offers 64 3-star rooms, said the upgrade was a result of feedback from the hotel's guests.
"Refurbishments of hotels are cyclical - they reach a time when they need to be improved," he said.
"There's a direct link between what guests were telling us and the refurbishment. Off the back of that (room upgrades) we're adding an extensive clean down of the facade and a major lighting upgrade on the North Terrace frontage," he said.
The Mercure attracts an equal share of international, interstate and intrastate travellers, according to Mr Patten and about 30 per cent of the hotel's clientele is in the business traveller market.
He hopes the refurbishment, along with the Convention Centre upgrade, will boost that number.
"What we'd like to see after the refurbishment is more corporate and government business," he said.
"We have made considerable changes to uplift the style and functionality of the rooms which we hope will attract even more people to the hotel for business and leisure.
"I think demand will be there especially with the level of capital investment happening in the CBD - and most of it is north of Gouger St."
The total value of international conferences secured by Adelaide is 5 per cent ahead of projections this financial year, according to the latest figures from the Adelaide Convention Bureau.
The total value of bid wins this financial year is up to $45.5 million, according to the Bureau, which says interest in Adelaide and South Australia as a destination for business travellers is at an all-time high.
Capping off a festival season when the Mercure has operated at an occupancy rate of more than 90 per cent, Mr Patten believes there is a case for more events to be held outside of Mad March.
"One idea is to have a reciprocal month at the back end of the year, potentially in September," he said.
"Relying on one month in a year is very difficult."
With major capital projects in the precinct soon to be completed, Mr Patten believes the hotel is well-positioned to capture a growing share of the leisure traveller market.
"We're the only non 5-star hotel on North Terrace and that works really well for us," he said.
"The emergence of the Riverbank precinct is fabulous. Adelaide Oval will bring in more leisure clients and it's likely to encourage more people from Melbourne and Sydney. It's really remarkable to see the ongoing transformation of Adelaide take place around the hotel and we're really excited to be a part of creating a vibrant new city."

I have just been fortunate enough to travel japan and spend time in Tokyo. If you want to see a CBD that copes with 9 million people daily residing and commuting it is a real eye opener and a credit to their infrastructure and "town planning" .

Quite right - those concerned citizens who think Adelaide's CBD will become unliveable if we increase the population beyond the current 22,000 something must be basing their fears on what they've seen on TV from slums in Lagos or Jakarta. The fact is that the current population of our own CBD is only half of what it was a hundred years ago.

Here is an attempt to do something about the lack of affordable apartments in Adelaide.

This would be a great way to launch the Spring/Summer season, using new festivals to complement SANFL and potential AFL finals, the Royal Show and OzAsia Festival. S.A.L.A. Festival builds through August and the Adelaide Film Festival has moved to October from Mad March.

Well, the fact that the person/s involved are seeking expressions of interest through a gmail account kinda ruins the credibility of this 'proposal'.

Bowden Station has been successful, so hopefully the same happens for North Adelaide.
