Told by the SMA that nearly all the seats will be the same teal colour as the northern mound/western grandstand...
Why teal? You can see every single spare seat there is when the seats are teal!

But it makes it look like Port Power can actually draw a crowd.bretthandorf wrote:Told by the SMA that nearly all the seats will be the same teal colour as the northern mound/western grandstand...

Sad that the seats are going to be a uniform teal colour. I was hoping for something along the lines of the new seating pattern in the Maracana, except in SA colours. Oh well another opportunity to excel and do something a little different to the rest of Oz missed:(Tonsley213 wrote:But it makes it look like Port Power can actually draw a crowd.bretthandorf wrote:Told by the SMA that nearly all the seats will be the same teal colour as the northern mound/western grandstand...

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

I'd previously felt pretty strongly about that (not sure why so strongly), but I now think all or predominantly the same colour seats is the way to go.
Redeveloped or not, it's still Adelaide Oval, which is a serious ground. If you look at the Gabba, AAMI Park (the Melbourne version), Metricon stadium etc., the seating looks too gimmicky.
I'd stick with the teal, with the maroon for honourary members' sections. Just to give it a slight bit of interest, I'd throw in a few random maroon seats among the masses of teal, but not to the point where it cheapens the place.

You can certainly tell the difference between "this stadium is full" & "the seats are coloured different because they can't fill the stadium".

I believe it has something to do with UV and this colour being the best against fading.dsriggs wrote:You can certainly tell the difference between "this stadium is full" & "the seats are coloured different because they can't fill the stadium".

I know someone who is a builder it is about 4 months behind.RiseHigh wrote:I was speaking to one of the trades on site and he told me they were 6 weeks behind, plus I worked on the western stand and I know how long that took and that's not as big as these two stands. But you never know they might start doing 24 hour shifts.dsriggs wrote:Anything to base that on?RiseHigh wrote:The Southern Stand will be ready for the Ashes, the Eastern Stand will be ready for AFL 2014 season. With hope we might see both stands ready in-time for the Ashes or maybe the Australia Day test![/quote
I predict that neither stands will be properly finished in time for the ashes, the southern stand will be rushed and barley ready, and the day after the ashes the workers will be back to finish it properly.

It doesn't appear to be behind looking at the schedule

That scehdule says nothing. It's the milestones within the timeframe of each main deliverable that determine the critical path and whether the final deadline will be met. I have heard from numerous sources to tradies, etc.. on the job that they are behind. Looking at the pictures, the last month especially seems to have seen the pace decline. A bit of a worry.

Election is in March. It WILL be compete before then. No chance it will be allowed to miss.

You can never guarantee when a building will reach practical completion. There's a bit of float in the basic timelines on the website, e.g., October for the Southern Stand and concourse for a December test match, but not 4 months' worth (IF that figure is accurate).Ben wrote:Election is in March. Will be interesting to see how it goes.
Without naming names or specific works and putting anyone in particular in the shit, does anyone know what the delays are mainly due to? At a guess, you'd think there were some design/supply issues involved given that weather hasn't been a problem to date, although labour quantities and interfacing issues will no doubt rear their head on this job as they do most others.

Just to make it extra clear, if anyone does want to answer my question above, be very, very broad and if you can't be certain, say so. There are journos who read the site and use what is said in their reports, so we'll need to tread very carefully as the Advertiser loves a bad AO news story.

Good to know. Had always wondered why so many stadiums had teal seats, especially in this country (AAMI, SCG, Stadium Australia etc.).Tonsley213 wrote:

Why would Adelaide even bid for the Olympics? Prestige? A huge bill? Shit our state government didn't even bother to engage the FFA when the FFA were consulting on cities to host the AFC Asian Cup in 2015! Adelaide Oval would have been completed by then. Adelaide would have been perfect to host a group, we did for Sydney 2000...Adelaide as an Olympic city? No way& no thanks. Comm games? Maybe, but that would require federal assistance and some vision from North Terrace.[Shuz] wrote:To answer your questions, despite all the fanfare that it is Commonwealth Games compliant, it was, but the requirements have either recently been changed or under review at the moment and this affects Adelaide Oval as it is now deemed uncompliant.Maximus wrote:I've no idea about stadium requirements for Commonwealth or Olympic Games, but an athletics field, including running track, could easily be laid within the boundaries of the playing surface. Has there been room allowed for a running track etc in the current plans?
As for the Olympics, you can pretty much forget about it.
