Why are gauge-convertible sleepers being installed all over the network if there's no plans to convert to standard gauge, nor bring in standard gauge trains?

Perhaps not 100% of them in Xaragmata's photo, but elsewhere around the network there's lengthy stretches of gauge-convertible track. There are plans to change the gauge to standard gauge in the next few years, but it is currently on hold like the other electrification plans. Train bogies can be changed without too much drama.

Funding has been promised for the duplication of the tonsley line, upgrade of tonsley and clovelly park stations and the creation of a new bus interchange.

Designs for the bus interchange will be interesting, since anything of even medium complexity coud clash with the darlongton transport study which is being funded by the libs and is still on the agenda in the medium term.
There have been proposals for a bus interchange there for the better part of 10 years now. I'm stuck on a city bound bus on South Road at the moment and would love to transfer to a train instead.

Interesting comments from a workmate of mine:
The thing about the bus interchange from the Tonsley area is that the train would only be useful in peak hour and if it was express. Out of peak periods, such as when I travel to work, it takes my bus about 23 minutes to get into town and 25-30 minutes when I travel home just before 4pm. It takes 15 minutes to walk between here and Adelaide railway station, which would mean the train would have to get from Tonsley to the city in 10 minutes to make it viable for me in my particular circumstance. Now, considering that the Tonsley line is the Noarlunga line's shorter poor cousin, express trains are not likely since it would be used as an all stopper to allow Noarlunga/Seaford trains to run express. Now, is it worth building an interchange and all that jazz for peak-only? I don’t know, somehow it doesn’t seem completely viable.

Isn't this all a bit premature?
If there is a change of government after September, there is almost no chance of this going ahead in the foreseeable future unless the Coalition promises to match it. The Coalition is not making any such promises to date.
Perhaps we should all wait until after September, or until the Coalition says what it will do before even thinking that this will happen. Or any of the other projects mentioned.
At this stage, these are merely election promises. Not worth the paper they are printed on.

This picture was taken late yesterday afternoon from the Seaford end of Warradale station. A hole of the full depth of the augur shaft has been dug, and this morning the reinforcing-rod cage lying in shadow in front of the orange safety barrier will have been lowered into the hole, the pole lifted over it, its protruding rods engaged with the cage and concrete poured, as is occurring in the background. By the end of today, the poles will have been erected to the Adelaide end of the platform.

The only reason the Noarlunga Line is getting electrified because it was already under contract while the Gawler Line wasn't if it wasn't the Noarlunga Line probably wouldn't be getting electrified now.bm7500 wrote:But no funding for the electrification of the Gawler line. Tony Abbott himself is open about not giving any federal funding at all to metropolitan rail projects. Rest assured the Coalition will continue to bang on about government debt, while pouring money into overpriced and and over-engineered freeway projects, and their obsolete before its even out of the box broadband plan.

They seem to be replacing and resleepering the tracks near the railway station, the part where they missed out during the closure.
