So you even like your food courts to be like a theme park?

Just saying it's better than any food court I've seen in Australia.

Hey I'm bizarrely fixated on themeparks too. I just understand the economics behind it.

Pushy, I think you'll find the Vegas style Trafford Centre is partly justified by the casino there.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

Not fixated. I just like to have fun, doesn't everyone?

Really if we want Adelaide to become "sensational" we need to be fully aware of what the rest of the world is doing, and make sure we're doing it at least as well, if not better.

As I keep on saying. Adelaide has plenty (in fact tons) of POTENTIAL to be sensational. It's just not fulfilling it. If anyone thinks otherwise then with respect they probably haven't seen much of what's offered in other cities in terms of architecture, public amenities, and things to do. I'll expect a bit of a backlash for saying that, but it's just my honest opinion and having travelled quite extensively and seen some really sensational places in the world, I stand by it.

I remain proud of Adelaide in the sense that I have lived here most of my life and I want it to fulfill that potential and become a sensational place to live (and even for people to visit too). However in my opinion we have a very long way to go and if we are ever to get there, we must set our sights a lot higher and not settle for ordinary when we could be extraordinary.

As food courts go, Tea Tree Plaza food court is about as ordinary and uninteresting as it gets, sadly.

+1
Not saying that we need a rollercoaster or something so full on in there, but would something so large and eccentric really be that much of a bad thing? I mean, it seems like something like Dazzeland would've worked if not for the State Bank collapse, generally lacklastre management and the fact that it was up some 25 metres in the air...

I can't help but think what if this were here, what if that were here. I know places like this and Marion are shopping centres first and foremost, but if they didn't intend on trying to entertain people, neither would have a cinema, a gaming arcade or in Marion's case a bowling alley. I have to admit, I do really like the close proximity of the State Aquatics Centre to Marion (which I'm assuming had nothing to do with Westfield anyway), but to me I feel it may need one more major attraction to perhaps realise it's potential.

Apart from the obvious enjoyment people can get from shopping centres with fun attractions, I think as retail moves more and more online shopping centres will be forced to fill their space with more than just shops if they want to fill it at all. That's not to say there won't be any physical shops because I think there always will be, but the centres have to be more than just shopping.

I've seen shopping centres with not just rollercoaster, but Legolands, indoor sky-diving, indoor adventure golf, interactive museums, and all sorts of other amazing fun stuff. It brings people in, and those people spend money while they're there!

If you research some of the worlds biggest malls you'll be amazed what they have in them. It's certainly not just shops and cafes. Also the architecture of the worlds best malls is of a completely different quality to what we see in Adelaide. Internally and externally they're either themed to look amazing and magical, or they're stunning architectural masterpieces.

The Trafford Centre, for example. has gone to the trouble of having their floor tiles in the mall specially manufactured so that quite a few of them contain rare fossils. Why do that? The answer is it attracts visitors who don't just go there to shop. Of course most of the visitors spend money while they're there, but they might not have come (from all over Britain and further afield) if it weren't for things like that and the other special features of the building.

So yes. There's a lot that can be done to improve shopping centres, with imagination and money! It might get to the stage where only the ones that do so will really thrive in the future. The others will merely survive, if they're lucky.

Wallspan and Cotton On are now gone.

This really only leaves Toys R Us, Radio Rentals and the sport place as the main tenants inside the centre, apart from the businesses on the outside.

JB Hi-Fi might be a suitable location for Cotton On.
And I reckon that due to the nearing foreclosure of Pelican Plaza, Hungry Jack's might be temporarily relocating to where Wallspan was. Hence, the former Ray White isn't up for lease for about a month.

What is happening to Pelican Plaza?
I would be surprised if anything happened to Hungry Jacks, they only finished renovations last year.

I heard someone at the centre mention that a second hand store may open where cotton-on used to be.

Pumpkin Patch has finally moved to where Book Boys used to be.
Also, a new 'Build-A-Bear' workshop has opened next door to it!

Charlie Chan in the food court has now closed after 27 years.
But something new & exiting is opening soon where Cheap As Chips used to be! Possibly a bigger Toys R Us, Radio Rentals, The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi, Foodland, etc. And the eastern side of Tea Tree Plus is going to change A LOT very soon! Ladies & gentleman, after 7 years of being stuck in dev-hell, the project is slowly moving forward!

UPDATE: The store that's opening at Tea Tree Plus will be a 'Mega Cash Converters' which will replace the one at Modbury Triangle! :D

This is actually bad news in a way. It shows that Westfield has totally pulled out of connecting the two centres together, and the high rise parking.
The connection was supposed to be through Woolworths current location, with Woolworths moving to where Cheap as Chips used to be. If Cash Converters opens there then there is nowhere for Woolworths to go if the centres were to be linked. So it looks like it's never going to happen.

Lastly, I would have preferred a Foodland/IGA to a Cash Converters.

Went to Hungry Jack's at Ridgehaven on Friday and had a nice meal there.
And I could be right that it's likely to relocate to the TTP food court next year!
What a time to see another childhood memory disappear! :(
