Just as a side note, the minister has advised that the electification of the Seaford line is scheduled to be completed in February 2014. Whether that means that electric trains will start running then I have no idea.

I'm fairly sure that one of the recent video's posted on Youtube by DPTI mentioned the first Electric trains are now expected in July. Judge for yourself the accuracy of that source.

The whole thing is progressing at a very fast rate now, obviously to ready the tracks for Belair in a few days time, and Seaford in only a few weeks time.

I do wonder if the new Wayville Station has been designed to accommodate for a fourth platform where the ARTC line is, if ever, in the future the freight line is re-routed on the other side of the Mount Lofty Ranges / Adelaide Hills to the north, and the existing track becomes the duplicated Belair line.

It would be easy to convert the Belair line to Standard Gauge, as in a few years time it will be the only non electrified line on our network meaning we can convert all of the diesel rail cars to standard gauge without having to worry about the other lines. It could also leave the door open for new intra and inter state rail services to Mt Barker, Murray Bridge, Melbourne etc.

Reopening of Belair Rail Line has been delayed due to signalling issues.Announced by Head of PTS Emma Thomas on Adelaide Metro website.
Substitute bus services will continue until the problem is fixed.
When train services are resumed,the substitute bus services will continue for 48 hours as well.

First of 22 Bombardier electric trains to arrive in Adelaide this week



THE first of 22 new electric trains will arrive in Adelaide this week ahead of electrified services starting on the Seaford line next year.

The Bombardier A-City 4000 train will make the journey from the company's Dandenong factory to Adelaide by road and is expected to arrive on Friday. It will be the state's first new passenger train in about 20 years.

Once here, it will be commissioned and made ready for track and driver testing over coming months.

The first electric services are expected to run on the Seaford line early next year.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the train's arrival was a landmark occasion.

"I am excited and I hope that the commuters who have patiently endured substitute bus services since January will be just as excited when they see the first of the A-City rail cars being track-tested during the next few months," he said.

The three-car trains will seat about 240 passengers and have standing room for up to 300 more.

Features of the trains include CCTV cameras front, back and inside, high capacity airconditioning, and a maximum speed of 110km/h.

And the whiners are out in force about the trains - they'll be overcrowded, why aren't the bigger (obviously never heard of coupling ), they weren't built in Adelaide, they'll be vandalised, they're going to sit and collect rust until next year (obviously didn't read the part about testing).

and the Belair line is still not open. How is it that in 7 months with no trains and stuff-all track work that they are having signalling issues when they had all that time?
