[COM] Adelaide Oval Redevelopment
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m
I know its not as tall as, but i'd be curious to know what the difference in height from the playing surface to the back row of the southern stand is in comparison to the MCGs Great Southern Stand.

Pretty sure this is comparing the new eastern stand to the northern stand at the MCG. Gives a good perspective thoughspiller wrote:I know its not as tall as, but i'd be curious to know what the difference in height from the playing surface to the back row of the southern stand is in comparison to the MCGs Great Southern Stand.

We are going to get an amazing arena, its going to hurt to read the inevitable griping from those who just can't help but pick out any negatives rather than focus on the many positivesMatt wrote:http://www.saca.com.au/gallery/gallery. ... 8&album=87

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

I am a North Adelaide resident and last week i received a survey in the post for the Adelaide City council's options to restrict match day parking in North Adelaide.
Really peeved me as most of the options are to make it as hard as possible for footy fans to park in North Adelaide on match days. Most aim to limit parking to 2-3 hr so it's impossible to see a match.
I think allowing parking in North Adelaide is preferable than using the parklands, will enable at least some families to park and walk (an Australian tradition)
Local parking will be great for the restaurants and coffee shops in Melbourne and O'Connell streets before and after the matches.
Unlike Ami stadium more will uses public transport or walk down from the CBD anyway.
North Adelaide copes well for big Adelaide Oval concerts, the Womad, and even the huge crowd for the old Sky Shows.
We will have a fantastic facility, why make it any harder to use? I for one are more than happy to forgo a bit of inconvenience on match day, especially as I now have the option of walking to a match, far trade off!

Have they included a carpark in / under the stadium itself? If not, why not?
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m
there will be a small amount of car parking under the southern stand it wouldn't be available to the general public however. the reason why there wasn't any more than that because it costs a fortune to have an underground car parking and isn't viable.pushbutton wrote:Have they included a carpark in / under the stadium itself? There is a carpark under the eastern stand, about 300 parks. Mainly for players/officials/corporates and accessibility parking. Encouragement given the central location of the ground to use public transport. Been part of the plan since day dotpushbutton wrote:Have they included a carpark in / under the stadium itself? I do not understand this 'big' issue with parking?
The council need to step out of this naysayer mentality. Come to Melbourne and have a look at how they do things here with the MCG, practically similar in its surrounds to Adelaide Oval (limited green space around for parking, public transport nearby, residential streets also nearby), but in-fact the nearest *major* train station will be closer in Adelaide (thanks to our new footbridge). People need to escape this thought that driving is the only way to a football or cricket game... Get on a bus, get on the tram, take a train, or walk. Public transport has a purpose, exploit that purpose...

People in Adelaide are spoiled by cheap CBD parking and relatively congestion free roads. This means Adelaideans like to drive almost everywhere. The move from Footy Park to New Adelaide Oval is going to require a major shift away from this mentality... I guarantee: the first AFL footy game at this Oval will create traffic chaos and there will be über-whining about it. The smart people(those who have traveled and seen how it can be done in other cities) can see this coming and are already decided that PT is the way to get to and from this new Stadium. Heck the bus($2.50/ride IIRC) I currently catch to the city stops just after the Cathedral Hotel/W&C Hospital on KWS, a short 70-90m walk to the new Victor Richardson gates in my estimation...why drive?Patrick_27 wrote:I do not understand this 'big' issue with parking?
