There are many more exciting things in life, trust me!
However whilst it's not something I could get excited about, it does sound like a nice enough bridge, as bridges go, and after hearing it talked about for 24 years, it's about bloody time!

What it might well do, that potentially WOULD be fairly exciting, is act as a catalyst for much more riverfront development. If some of that development turned out to be exciting attractions or activities for the public to enjoy, well then that would certainly add value to the city.

- kids splash area
- amphitheatre
- wooden river boardwalk
- belvedere
- waterfall

Plus, the location means its a pretty transformative piece of kit for the city.

Given the hints to the finishes and lighting in the above clip, should look pretty swish when complete, particularly at night.

Do people still think the 8m width is too narrow? It seems wide enough, seems about 10 people wide easily and how many people from the oval would actually use it after a game? 20,000 maybe. Any wider would look bizarre and over sized for the Torrens lake, the main issue would be the flow from the bridge to North Tce and beyond.

Was thinking the same thing, everyone rocking up on trains and trams are going to be using this one bridge.. when you think about it its a very narrow channel to move such a large amount of people.

One thing that makes me squirm a little is the use of the term 'Bistro' for this restaurant at the AFC. I may be alone here, but when I hear Bistro I think really cheap Charlie's Diner style restaurant; now whilst I loved Charlie's as a child, such a restaurant doesn't market itself to people from overseas/interstate who want to spend that little bit more on dining. Not that was need to go to the level of Melbourne's Crown Precinct where the standard is $100 a head, but I'd hope that the Riverside area were trying to keep things to a higher standard for these so-called 'High-Rollers' they hope to attract.

Can't think of too man GLASS CLAB bridges ? It's going to look amazing! I'm Glad they chose this design its unique and fitting for the landscape. Imagine the proposed Y shaped bridge or the one with the 360* walk around .... In the overall scheme of things this is much more than a foot bridge. For example the crossing to Adelaide uni is just that a footbridge that serves it purpose. This footbridge is not only going to be aesthetically pleasing and very practical it will make a statement, draw people and encourage further development on both sides of the river. On a side note I was passing through the city about 8.30 this evening and 3 government funded sites ( AO, RAH and CONVENTION CENTRE) were all illuminated under flood lights and many trade still onsite. Not sure Adelaide will see anything like this again? Those 3 sites alone amount to 3 billion+ dollars. A shout out to all you tax payers out there

More than happy with a bistro. it can be for festival centre patrons and also on the river it is for families, walking, boating, people on their way to and from footy and cricket. The thought bubble of "high rollers" is a myth as far as I am concerned. The casino crowd don't even know if it day or night, and with the casino expansion I doubt very much if anyone actually leaves the building except to go home! Make our riverbank for fun and families please.

My thoughts precisely.

Big developments in the CBD should be for the benefit of the majority, not the minority (who in this case are so-called high rollers).

Yes all very good points. Agreed. It is still just a bridge but I hadn't really fully considered all the above as being associated with it. They are though so good points.

Agree, Matt for all the reasons you have given in your post.
The bridge AND surrounding developments associated with the footbridge are key. The AFC will get some much needed partial rejuvenation and better connectivity and contribution to the riverside.

The footbridge connection should act as an impetus for greater and more diverse use of the northern side of the river. Aside from walking, cycling and the obvious sports side, the northern side has been underutilized and under appreciated. The Tennis Centre and Next Gen gym and carpark present a sort of barrier with an unattractive 'backs to the river' look.

I especially like the lighting at night feature of the footbridge. This, with lighting of the water fountain feature and well-lit footpaths either side of the river and other features, will add to the ambience and appeal of the precinct.

I remember the naysayers decrying the tram extension as a waste, and look how popular that has been and how it has been a catalyst for other developments.

I wonder what it would look like if they lit up the edges of the entire river bank with led's, and improved the lighting on and around the existing bridges..
