Wow. As others have said, the flexibility in the building is impressive.

My opinion stands that we should raze the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre and the Next Generation Centre and in their stead build a multi-purpose arena that holds 15,000 and services Tennis, Concerts, Netball, and Basketball. Somewhat like the new Perth Arena (but nowhere near the cost). Close the Entertainment Centre and ETSA Park and sell the land for inner suburban housing development like Bowden. Use that money to contribute to the construction cost. With the new venue we could attract more larger scale events, whilst using it as an opportunity to try and attract the tennis international back to Adelaide. If we were to host a Commonwealth Games (sure, we'd have lost two venues that could have been used) but we'd have a massive multi-purpose venue right next to our stadium. Not to mention, the location of such a venue would work well with the riverside precinct if on-going events were taking place.

Could someone please explain the high density around the North side of the Morphett street bridge in the first view of the city? (Unless that is actually nothing new).

I'm also intrigued by the glass pavilion shown above the banquet room of the Festival Centre in the video? I hope that's something being actually considered for the redevelopment, as I've always thought that the centre should have a stronger presence on King William Road (and that particular part of the centre is a ramshackle anyway).

I couldn't agree more!! I'd love to see the Tennis return to Adelaide and a new multipurpose indoor entertainment venue would be great for the city! I honestly can't see them closing the entertainment centre anytime soon though, since they just redeveloped it and added a new carpark?

Seems like a good idea, but closing the Entertainment Centre would be one step forward and two steps back, I feel. The infrastructure around creating a free tram service to Port Road, The Entertainment Centre's upgrades and their new carpark make this quite unviable. I do like the idea of bringing the national league basketball and netball teams to this area, though. That would be really cool to see. The only down side to this I can see with an event like the Commonwealth games, is that this type of multi-purpose arena would contain many sports jam-packed into a small, two week window. I think events like weightlifting, wrestling and boxing would probably be forced to utilise this space, too.

All in all, that's a touch off-topic.

The very first view of Adelaide, at about the 0:08 mark? I think these are the buildings just north of Light's Vision, like the Carclew building and a few others just north of that. If you're talking at the 0:25 second mark, I think these are just sheds for the rowing clubs, but I may be mistaken. Perhaps you're also thinking of the UnISA and Adelaide Uni research and medical schools, which are also shown on the flythrough?

Either way, this precinct is pretty fantastic for Adelaide's growth and development. I'd just love to see this create a snowball effect to inspire a new precinct around another well designed area of the CBD.

No I was talking about North Adelaide, maybe the video just makes them look taller?

this would be epic.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

It wouldn't even have to be a flash one like Perth's, just go to the USA and grab the plans of almost any NCAA div1 basketball arena built in the last 20 years or so and build it here.

this one was built for US$180m, holds 15k for hoops, 14k for a concert and would look so much better where Memorial drive & the fitness centre are currently. To appease the hippies, you could put parking underground which could then be used when the footy is on. OR just ask everyone to catch PT and utilise that fancy new footbridge;)

The building/s in that image north of the bridge will form the SA Biomedical and Health Precinct, it includes the new hospital and SAHMRI.
Here's the threads for the new proposals.

Wow, looks like a very complex internal structure - explains why this one is taking its time...

Heading into and out of Adelaide Railway Station from time to time, I still see workers in and near the train lines, under the Convention Centre itself. I thought that all the work down there had already been done?
