Air NZ to fill Qantas Adelaide-Auckland void
May 23, 2007
AIR New Zealand will more than double flights between Adelaide and Auckland next year in response to Qantas withdrawing from the route in late July.
Air New Zealand group general manager Norm Thompson today said the airline would offer flights between the cities six days a week from November this year, then daily from February 2008.
The airline had already announced that services would increase to five-a-week in November, from the current three, but decided to boost capacity after Qantas announced its withdrawal earlier this month.
Mr Thompson said the new services would more than replace the capacity removed by Qantas pulling off the route.
Qantas had said the decision to scrap its three times a week direct flights was in response to sluggish market demand.

Airport plans hotel on car park
There are concerns about moves by Adelaide Airport to build a hotel on the airport's car park.
The airport is looking to cater for the growing number of business travellers and has commissioned a feasibility study into building a hotel.
Adelaide Convention Tourism Authority board member Martin Winter welcomes the concept.
"It would be very handy, I must admit, in those times of peak periods, like in March and April," he said.
But a nearby hotel operator fears his family-run business will suffer.
And West Torrens Mayor John Trainor says his council will probably not be consulted on the development, which will not be subject to local planning laws.
"We welcome most of the economic development that occurs around the airport," he said.
"The problem that we have is that it doesn't follow the rules that apply to everyone else."
Final approval for developments on airport land lay with federal Transport Minister Mark Vaile.

hmm, well that's what it seems like as it didnt refer to it as the old car park... although i find that to be a rather odd place to put it when theres all those old buildings around the place , whcih could make way for it
if a hotel was put on the current carpark... it would block out the airport...

It states in the AAL masterplan that they wish to build a multi-storey hotel connected to the airport by a walkway... They could encompass the multi-storey carpark they are talking about into the design of the hotel giving a sizeable 10 or so storey building that would also save cost of building two separate multi-storey structures.

Jetstar to increase flights between Adelaide and Queensland
Friday, June 01, 2007
The budget airline Jetstar has announced it will increase flights later this year to cater for the increasing patronage between Adelaide and Queensland.
The changes will affect the direct services between Adelaide and Cairns and the Sunshine Coast during the peak travel season to far North Queensland.
Jetstar is the only carrier to offer direct services between Queensland and Adelaide so the increase in flight services to boost the existing services is an attempt to meet and predict traveller demand between the South Australian capital and Queensland.
From 28 July 2007, Jetstar will see the Adelaide to Cairns route grow from three to five services weekly; Adelaide to Sunshine Coast will see an additional weekly service from two to three times weekly.
During the high season from 1 June to 20 September, there will be an additional 10 more weekly return services to Cairns, including an extra daily direct service from Sydney and three extra from Melbourne.
Alan Joyce, Chief Executive Officer of Jetstar said the changes announced did not reduce any existing capacity or weekly scheduled flights but shifted more flying to routes that had sustainable future growth prospects.
“Jetstar’s additional flights between Adelaide to Cairns and the Sunshine Coast is directly correlated to customer demand and the positive forward outlook we see in both markets,†said Joyce.
“Our revised schedule will better suit the needs of our existing passenger base and will also attract new customers, whilst importantly not changing the current capacity we now have between South Australia and Queensland.â€
