Mind you, it doesn't explain the M20 (I know it was designated M20, because Main North Road is A20) designation for the Northern Expressway, seeing as that will link into the Northern Connector, which in turn links to the North-South Motorway.
I understand that in the future that will make perfect sense, but until these 2 roads link together by freeway standard, there will be multiple separate M2's. And if the next section to be freeway standard, was between Richmond Road and Henley Beach Roads, for example, would this also become M2, giving us 3 separate M2's?
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

Not the first place that would have this. Belfast's M2 is in 2 separate section as well (the section in between the two parts was never completed due to the Troubles)

Still no announcement on that one, yet?

Also, will the connector still be technically called South Road? :P

It'd be closer to the election I'd say, perhaps January..

And the connector would be called either the Northern Connector, renamed the Northern Expressway, or will be renamed along with the Northern Expressway to become 'North-South Motorway'.

'South Road' would still exist, but only as the surface level service road (mainly for the sake of addressing).

It could be promised as part of the upcoming state election campaign.

Priorities will have to be established between between Darlington, Torrens Road to River Torrens and the Connector projects. The current state government favours the Torrens Road to River Torrens section while the feds currently favour the Darlington section.

As someone who (now) lives in the east, I don't go past this project anymore, but I know it's closing in on their initial opening date. When is that again? Are they still on track for this?

Drive past it daily, and they've got ALOT of work to do if they're to make the December deadline

I seriously doubt now that it'll make the deadline.

UBD's 2014 street directory lists a 2014 completion time.

So has there been anything official as for when this will be open? I drive past the northern end daily and from there it looks almost finished.

I've wondered this too. For something so huge, there has been very little media attention about it.

From what I've seen they have installed a few of those overhead electronic sign boards, street lights, rails/barriers on the side, some section still don't have those big concrete barrier things. When it was raining the other week there was lots(and I mean lots) of water pouring from under near onto south road at various spots..not sure if that's been fixed hasn't rained since.
The on-ramp next to the Caltex has a patch of dirt between south road and the bitumen on the ramp.
South road it self especially around there needs a fresh layer of bitumen. Around Days road there's still a layer of bitumen to be laid, I think I saw some associated work crews around there the other day though.
Part of the super way where it starts just before Days Rd is also lit up underneath in purple.

I believe it was supposed to be completed by the end of the year, but I'm guessing January or February.

According to an update just posted on the DPTI website:
"Major works on the southbound elevated carriageway are scheduled for completion by the end of December 2013 to enable final commissioning and opening to traffic in January 2014"
