Have you worked out what it's for? I walked past it today and was liking what I saw.
Tried to do both a Google search, and a search through the council DAP minutes since the start of the year, and couldn't find anything about it.

oh the memories ..
Agree 100%
Wasn't there a HJ's at Glenelg as well, at one point?
There was - closed about 10 years ago. One of the few that never brought in unlimited refills (and since the Glenelg one closed, the only other HJ's that doesn't have unlimited refills is the Dry Creek On The Run store).

Not overly surprised they've gone for just 16 seats. Would be sufficient for day trade, and they wouldn't want too many people loitering around on Friday/Saturday night's (they will probably close it off completely at night like KFC do with their Hindley St dining area.

Colonel Light's statute may need relocating with renovated Adelaide Oval blocking view to the city
FOR 75 years Colonel William Light has stood on his perch high above the city, an outstretched finger pointing towards the city he designed.
But now as the giant redevelopment of Adelaide Oval rises before him, Colonel Light can no longer see the city below - it's lost in a blizzard of cranes and emerging grandstands.
Standing in front of Light's Vision on Montefiore Hill, the enormous bulk of the southern and eastern stands at the new $535 million Adelaide Oval has blocked much of the city.
TELL US: Where should Colonel Light be moved?
Little can be seen in an arc from the Stamford Grand hotel on North Terrace to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. The southern stand alone rises 51m from its concourse and has a roof span of 145m.
Perhaps it is time to move the venerable Colonel Light back down into the city that he did so much to create.

I think we should build another lookout overlooking the entirety of the city, possibly find the best vantage point and put the Colonel There.

I know, why not on top of the Old RAH mountain?
Joking aside, I don't see any reason to move him. Oval stands or not, it's still the best vantage point of the city within the parklands.

This article comes after I posted this on the 16th on the Adelaide Oval thread.
"I do love how Col. Light now points directly at the stadium. Visitors will be scatching their heads.

Here is a picture of the new façade at 167 Flinders St. The whole top section was transported and lifted into place as one piece on a Saturday afternoon. Behind the new front is an old single story warehouse that is being upgraded.

Been thinking about this today .... I think we should leave the good Colonel exactly where he currently is. Light's Vision is the best vantage point in the parklands that we have looking back to the CBD.
However I think we should augment this key location with a viewing/observation tower, which would allow people to see over the top of the Adelaide Oval stands and provide a lookout worth coming to visit. I'm not talking about a Sydney tower-type structure, more something like the scale of the
Swan Bells in Perth or the
National Carillon in Canberra ... a tower about 50m high or so with an observation deck on the top level, and a small cafe or similar on the level underneath. Could also be used as a function venue as well.
Swan Bells and the National Carillon are popular landmarks in their respective cities, and a modest observation tower with Adelaide's best views would most likely be a popular landmark in Adelaide as well. Could look fantastic lighted up at night. Cost would most likely be modest ... Swan Bells (a really striking design) is 82m tall and cost $5.5M when completed in 2000.
We just need someone in ACC or State Govt with a bit of vision ...

Lights Vision should be stay. He would be pleased to see the progress that is occuring in our city at the moment. The only reason the 'view' has been blocked out is because we don't have tall enough buildings just yet. This will eventuate over time.

Hear hear. The current location is fine.
Perhaps we could change his attribution from "I want it to be built there." to "WTF is that?!"
Just in case anyone is under any false impression about the current location:
The statue now on Montefiore Hill, also now referred to as Light's Vision. "Light's Vision commemoration" was unveiled on 27 Nov 1906[8] in its original location in Victoria Square. It was moved to Montefiore Hill in 1938. The statue depicts Light pointing to the Adelaide city centre. This is not necessarily where he actually first stood to make his declaration; there is evidence that he actually stood near the corner of North and West Terraces,[6] and there is a memorial and plaque in that vicinity marking the approximate location of the Land and Survey offices, and of Light's and Fisher's huts, which were destroyed by fire in 1839.
