Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

They're really making inroads into the construction now, looking better by the day.

Are the Clarrie Grimmett gates being replaced?

I don't know for sure, but given the heritage concerns, I suspect they're being augmented rather than replaced.Henwii wrote:Are the Clarrie Grimmett gates being replaced?

Could it be that the new gate to the right of the existing gate structure is intended for members and the exiting one for general public, or perhaps the new one is for staff accreditation?Kasey771 wrote:I don't know for sure, but given the heritage concerns, I suspect they're being augmented rather than replaced.Henwii wrote:Are the Clarrie Grimmett gates being replaced?

Surely they would be building a bigger Clarrie Grimmett gate - no way the current set up would cope with a full house.Kasey771 wrote:I don't know for sure, but given the heritage concerns, I suspect they're being augmented rather than replaced.Henwii wrote:Are the Clarrie Grimmett gates being replaced?

Rebuilt Adelaide Oval to honour 24 of our footy greats
THE irony of having a pavilion of Adelaide Oval named after Max Basheer was not lost on the man himself as he inspected the works at the city ground this week.
Basheer, the SANFL's longest serving president, oversaw the building of Football Park when the volatile relationship between football and cricket had become untenable at Adelaide Oval in the early 1970s.
For his name to be one of five to grace the eastern grandstand - alongside Gavin Wanganeen, Jack Oatey, Fos Williams and Mark Ricciuto - had him searching for words.
``It's a shock to the system,'' Basheer said. ``But it's a wonderful honour. I never expected that.''
Football in South Australia has never been big on naming things in champions' honour. They called the training oval outside Football Park Max Basheer Reserve and there was a Magarey Room that served as the main function centre, but that was it.

I just can't see how they are going to get people in and out of this place efficiently. Gates at the North, East and South. Possibly one out beyond Adel Oval #2 on the Western side.
Compare that with AAMI, MCG etc which have 15 odd gates spread evenly around the ground, dispersing the crowd in all 360 degrees.
Exiting the Western stand after a 20/20 last year took about 20 mins. Can see that being the norm for most of the ground.

Will be interested to find out more about the entry/exit options/efficiency to the new AO and comparisons to other venues. This would have been a major consideration during planning (and mandated emergency exit options) so hoping this won't be a problem?!?sjc wrote:I just can't see how they are going to get people in and out of this place efficiently. It's a huge frustration for fans if caught in long queues and the game/match is about to start or has started. (This can occur at some venues when some gates are closed to save on staffing, when less than maximum crowds expected?) Yes, arrive early is a good mantra but twilight/after work games can be an issue.
