[COM] Adelaide Oval Redevelopment
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m
It's all over the media.
As hinted earlier on this forum, a 'big act' was rumored to be in the offing to open the redeveloped AO. Well, The Rolling Stones has to be one of the biggest.
So, The Rolling Stones is the big act. But it's not yet a done deal.

As big as they may be or used to be. They won't appeal to a lot of people under 40? 50?
I would of preferred someone a bit more relevant but of course there is no possible way they can find an artist/group that would appeal to everyone.

Seriously? They have more cross-generational appeal than anyone that's "a bit more relevant". They'll sell it out easily.Ben wrote:As big as they may be or used to be. They won't appeal to a lot of people under 40? 50?

I disagree. I'm nearly 30 and couldn't tell you one of their songs. Maybe thats just me, but I would assume its the case for MOST not all people under 40.

The only Rolling Stone I know is the one used as the door to Jesus' cave.

pretty good video of the Adelaide Oval, by the looks of it I'd say it was done about 2 weeks ago at a guess

I'm not a Stones fan, and having worked in his industry I'd prefer to see something more cost effective that branches out to all age grouos and demographics. That's not to say a line-up of Aussie acts, that would be lane and typical of such an opening. Something like Foo's. But bigger, perhaps the joint tour for Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age which is penned in for March would be a good foundation for a festival type event.

Actually, that's a lie, there's also the magazine.[Shuz] wrote:The only Rolling Stone I know is the one used as the door to Jesus' cave.
They should have got Kylie. Everyone loves Kylie.

Check out this virtual 3D tour of the Adelaide Oval redevelopment site. This 3D model has been generated from aerial photographs acquired on the 13th September.

wish they could have got Bruce Springsteen. Now that's an act that appeals across many demographics. 2 sold out shows in ADL despite the megabux required to buy a ticket.Ben wrote:As big as they may be or used to be. They won't appeal to a lot of people under 40? 50?

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Regardless of who the opening act is people will complain.
and no. That's just not an Adelaide thing.

It doesnt matter who the headline act is, as long as it is an instantly recognisable band, and that the concert at Adelaide Oval is an Australian exclusive (one off), not part of a tour... this will then make news interstate, promoting the oval and Adelaide...
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m
I can't believe people are complaining about the Rolling Stones being a potential headline act. Like them or not, it will be a massive coup, they are undeniably one of the most important bands in music history, or indeed in the history of the 20th Century. You would prefer One Direction or something?
