Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
the money will be back after the state election i would guess.
let's face it, State Labor have done themselves no favours here.If they had got their stuff together this wouldn't have been an issue.

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Disgusting.
Also, where does Briggs get off by acting surprised at the transport plan and refusing to pay the $2m allocated for it? I'm pretty damn sure that the plan was well under way before the election. Or are we now entering a time where no-one should do any project unless it fits completely within an election cycle, for fear of getting allocated funds pulled because the new guys who come in at the very very end of it weren't consulted from the start?

I guess when you rely on Federal Government to do something, then yes you probably want to do things within an election cycle.Nathan wrote:Disgusting.

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
You guys seem to forget that thanks to the previous Federal labor Government and its huge debt, the new Federal Government cannot afford to keep on spending like we would all like them to.
Tony Abbot made it very clear before the election that his was an Infrastructure Government and would not be spending funds on local rail projects or public transport as that was a State Government responsibility.Despite this Weatherill and(rude and arrogant) Koutsantonis went ahead with their Big Announcement of a 30 year plan with out bothering to consult with the Federal Government, similarly it did not consult with the Federal Government about its plan to electrify the Adelaide to Salisbury line(to use 6 A class trains).
How short-sighted of these 2 men-"you reap what you shall sow" as the saying goes!

Blah, blah, blah. The Federal Liberals agreed to fund any projects already under tender after the election, which this one was.bay transit wrote:You guys seem to forget that thanks to the previous Federal labor Government and its huge debt, the new Federal Government cannot afford to keep on spending like we would all like them to.
Stop apologising for the Liberal party's arrogance, there is no excuse for this sort of thing.
Just imagine if we had a huge pile of half finished projects every time an election resulted in a change of government, scary huh.
AdelaideNow: Now with 300% more Liberal Party hacks, at no extra cost.

Is that extension under tender at the time of the election?fabricator wrote:Blah, blah, blah. Did Wetherill just announce they were going to restart it?

If anything in the recent week is anything to go by, the Feds have just increased government debt by 66% to $500bn, and just threw away $8.8b to the Reserve Bank for no real reason whatsoever. So much for responsible fiscal management.bay transit wrote:You guys seem to forget that thanks to the previous Federal labor Government and its huge debt, the new Federal Government cannot afford to keep on spending like we would all like them to.
I agree with the sentiments of others, this is a flagrant act of bastardry by Abbott and his Coalition cronies. Fuck them. Bring on 2016.

I knew this would happen, didn't I say that in a post on the 30 yr plan thread! Blind Freddy could have seen it coming. Next, watch Abbott withdraw federal funds for the West-End health precinct, and post state election, watch nothing happen with South Rd at Darlington and Port Rd either.

The economy depends totally on spending, and Australia owns the Reserve Bank so our credit is unlimited. Therefore until private sector spending makes a full recovery, the government can't afford not to keep spending.
Besides, Tony Abbott says he wants to be remembered as an infrastructure prime minister. That requires the government to invest in infrastructure!

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Weatherill must be hugging himself with glee.
This announcement probably gives him enough ammunition on the Coalition for a couple of State seats at least. Not only in the North, but in other areas where he can say: "See! See what happens when you let these people in!"
Truss may have given the ALP another term in SA. For $76m, that is remarkably cheap.

our credit isn't unlimited, especially under the reserve bank act of 1959.
Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Its becoming clearer and clearer that the state government is going to need to start looking for alternative sources of funding (tolls or added petrol taxes) to finance its planned infrastructure spend.
