Weren't they supposed to install cantenary lighting across the Mall?

I think the big seat thing near Charlesworths is a little oversized. They should get rid of the 'third' step and reduce the height of the structure, at least - fill the hole with one of Chinese Elms?
I think the catenary lighting is supposed to be added in a later stage, although I could be wrong. I don't find the large seating to big at all - it gives it a decent mass so that it becomes a sculptural element as well as a functional piece of street furniture. There's a couple more similar ones planned for the other end of the mall and one just east of Gawler Pl - but the King William St end one is the biggest.

How are they going to light this stretch of the mall at night whilst construction work stops over Xmas shopping period?

There's been several black painted boxes put up along the Mall, with a large block of stone in each. I suspect these will be temp lighting stands. We'll find out tonight.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

Asked The Lord Mayor about the catenary lighting on FB the other day (asked whether it was being added when the paving, etc, is complete throughout the length of the mall).

He didn't reply, but "liked" the comment, so assume that's an implicit yes?

Oh those views to the hills!
You do realise this shot is towards the beach, not the hills?
Yes. It was a joke

It isn't just here but hearing generally around the City ..... Enough about the malls new pavers. If you walk around the CBD and look down I challenge anyone to come up with a better looking surface. Hate to say it but we have more than just bronze pigs in our city. Our footpath surfaces are generally disgusting - therefore ACC has a far greater issue to deal with.

There are many open air malls around the world (and in Australia) which do not look filthy. In fact, even Rundle Mall was not generally considered filthy until these new pavers were put in (or at least I never heard such a comment and never thought it myself). So, hard as it may be to believe, it is actually possible for a hard outdoor high-traffic ground covering to look good, and stay clean.

I posted some examples a bit earlier in this thread, but there are many more.

Dude, get over it. They'll probably get another clean when the entire stretch of the mall is complete.

I don't think he needs to get over it. In fact, I think it's a good thing people are noticing and complaining. Australians are far too content when it comes to new developments, we accept average at best designs without challenging them or demanding better, when we really deserve the very best of everything.

Geez people, I could understand the whinging if you had contributed in any way towards the project, but come on! You don't go to someone's house and complain about the carpets do you?

A public tax funded? retail strips which relies on public foot traffic and spendings is a little different from someones private home flooring.
