Wow! Love those pics of the 'South Gate' entrance at night.

Adelaide Oval looks more and more amazing as a premier sporting ground and multi-purpose venue as the full transformation gradually emerges. And fans will be able to check out the Southern stand and amenities this Sunday during the Redbacks SS game.

The Rolling Stones opening gig has contributed a huge buzz (and the usual negatives from those who can't see the positive in anything). Great to see so many Rolling Stones fans expressing their love for the group on social media and buying tickets for the Adelaide Oval gig, using the official hashtag (#StonesAdelaide).

A quick perusal of the hashtag yesterday showed that many interstate fans were buying tickets on the pre-sale and overseas buyers too, (with the pre-sale link and a pass code given via social media to Stones worldwide fans).

Although the Stones will do shows in other Australian cities, Adelaide Oval will be the the only outdoor venue with the same stage as the the gigs on their overseas tour.
The stage design for this show includes a massive ramp, over 30 metres long, which extends right into the audience allowing the Stones to interact directly with their audience. Known for their ground-breaking sets and use of cutting-edge technology, the Stones’ set design will feature video screens and special effects that will enhance the high-octane experience of attending a live Stones’ show.

This is easily going to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, stage and production Adelaide has ever seen with nearly 60 trucks required for all the staging and production. It will be the only show in Australia featuring this level of outdoor production. The Rolling Stones are really looking forward to this huge concert to open this iconic new venue.

I'm puzzled by the level of furore, fanned by old media, about the Sheffield Shield final having to be shifted IF the Redbacks finish on top of the table, given that SACA members were e-mailed an official pre-sale link, passcode to the concert. Tacit approval?

Vee, I'm pretty sure that pic is from the promo booklet sent to SACA members a little while ago. It had quite a few computer-generated images of what the new Oval might look like in its various guises.
It's = it is; its = everything else.
You're = you are; your = belongs to.
Than = comparative ("bigger than"); then = next.

I think as much as the Stones gig is a great idea it's a bit of a balls-up as far as making it clear that Cricket won't get shafted.
I appreciate there is a tight time schedule between the ground being ready and the first AFL match, the SMA should have kept away from the issue so early on in the piece and not scheduled the gig to clash. Maybe in 4 years time we can "accidentally" shaft the possible SS final from AO, but it's not a good start in the Cricket-PR area for the SMA.

Wait what?

People are annoyed about the POSSIBILITY of a low drawing match (Bupa Final would NOT bring 70,000 people, nor could it) being shafted over, and I don't use this term often, a WORLD-CLASS stadium tour from The ROLLING STONES.

Is this a joke?

It's not a joke - this is a pretty poor start to SMA's tenure in charge of a "sporting stadium". Whilst it is probably going to be a moot point as I cannot see SA making the shield final (but one can hope), what the hell is the landlord (SMA) doing in double booking the stadium ni the very first year.....does not bode well for the future.

My comment has nothing to do with the concert being held at Adelaide Oval, for me it is pure and simply about priorities - this fixture is for sport, and extra events must always be worked around the stadiums primary function. Cricket is not the poor cousin, it has rights of access as a co-tenant for the stadium and should not be made to give up a possible final for a concert - as a paying member for decades, I think this is a disgrace.

Firstly, how can your comment not be about the concert being held at Adelaide Oval, when you are complaining that the concert at Adelaide Oval is bumping off a possible state cricket final?

How many people are going to attend that cricket match? Very few. And that is IF our state side makes it to the finals. And that is a very unlikely outcome.
70,000 people are going to attend the Rolling Stones concert.
They are running a business, 70,000 people will bring in a lot more money then the few who will attend a state cricket match.

The concert is a sure thing to happen, the cricket final isn't.
I think they've got their priorities the right way around.

You can't put all the blame on the SMA anyway.
AFL is starting earlier each year, eventually it will probably well overlap into the end of the soccer and cricket seasons.
The administrative bodies of these codes need to sit down and work out schedules for each shared stadium each year. Especially since we now have another stadium that will be used by two sporting codes.

Redbacks are unlikely to host the Final, but they're a better chance than a few years ago.
The fact remains that they wouldn't bump Port v GWS or an Adelaide Strikers game, but they'll bump a FINAL of the elite domestic cricket competition from the main ground of the sport.
I think you'll find in any other state if the main ground of cricket is the same one as for another, higher-drawing sport (or venue for a gig) they'd not be shafting the SS Final.
It's not about bums on seats or anything, it's about it being HOME to that sport, and an elite FINAL of a competition.

They already had to bump AFL to round two so they can finish the stadium.

Dilemma:

- book outdoor concert to open stadium, one of the biggest bands in the world, guaranteed sell out, global exposure for Adelaide.

- don't, because of a very slim chance that we might earn the right to host a state cricket final that would draw bugger all crowd.

Correct decision.

If the Final was a certainty, booked in, but only going to get 300 people each day still?

That's a great idea and I hope it's what they are doing!
Looks great, can only reinforce the opinion expressed earlier that this will be the best Stadium approach in all of Australia. Was at the riverbank yesterday and the direct access from the Railway Station to the new bridge is looking pretty good before the 2nd Ashes test:)
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Those lights on the roof of the Southern Stand look tacky. Sure, works for the Ent. Centre, but purple, pink, etc on a stand that has just below has copper and sand-stone finish? Really?

I reckon the multi colouring is just testing. I'd expect the colours to be themed for the home side (Red, gold, blue for the Crows, teal, black and white for Port, red, possibly black for the Redbacks, blue for the Strikers, and green and gold for Australia)

They're a long way from each other though. One you will see from the city but I'd think hardly notice from the plaza, the other you'll see only from the plaza.
