There seems to be some sort of office underneath it, but yeah no idea of it's purposes. The CEO of the SMA was nearby, should have asked him!Matt wrote:No, I meant the one actually on the plaza, between the plaza and the tennis courts (I think Henwii knows which I mean).

An interesting observation - it looks like there's going to be two different ticketing agencies for Adelaide Oval.
Football tickets look like they're going through Ticketmaster - I think Virtual Venue is a Ticketmaster product (Ticketmaster venues in the US use the same technology), and when I click on the western stand reserved seating chart it opens up a Ticketmaster page before diverting to the seating plan page.
Cricket/concert tickets are going through Ticketek.
First time I've heard of this occurring at a venue.

Here's some photos I took last weekend at the Adelaide Oval football members day in the western stand...

The Southern stand will be called the 'Torrens Stand'. Black tape covered the name on all the directional signage in readiness for the official naming I guess.

GREAT PICK UP!!!mattblack wrote:The Southern stand will be called the 'Torrens Stand'. Black tape covered the name on all the directional signage in readiness for the official naming I guess.
This will, hopefully, stop the ground announcer at the cricket calling it the "City End", which really irked me. However, I fear it will be the "Torrens Stand End". Closer to "River End" than "City End' was though.
Cathedral End and River End, I grew up with. In recent years it seems to have changed to Scoreboard End and City End. Shame.

I actually liked the city end reference. I didn't expect the Southern Stand to be named the Torrens stand. It's been a while since anything in this state has been named after Torrens.

Rolling Stones Adelaide show a sellout
The Rolling Stones will play to a sellout crowd at Adelaide Oval on March 22 after fans were quick to snap up tickets when they went on sale this morning.
While some fans queued at outlets around town, many others headed online to try and secure their seats.
All tickets - more than 50,000 of them - were soon sold.
“It’s extraordinary, really went pretty much in the first hour this morning, at one stage we were selling 1200 tickets a minute,” promoter Tony Cochran said.

Question ... I thought that there were 70,000 tickets for sale??

Just had a quick look at the webcam, and it looks like the entire arc of the south stand AND the plaza is currently lit up in green and gold.
Looks great from afar, but from a very dodgy webcam shot. Anyone seen it in person?

I walked in today to have a look - there was a security guard on the gate but he walked off as I approached so I just went through . Took a few iphone snaps and there was quite a bit of prep going on for next week's test.
^^ assuming that's one of the new AFL coaches boxes.
^^ the AFL player interchange area which is possibly being used as some form of temp. seating for the cricket, maybe for media?
^^ wet paint on the walkway which I could smell.
Looking forward to seeing it full in next week's test!
