So, 2 days to fill in that rather large gap so the bridge is crossable...

Well I hope they figure out a way..cos I intend to catch the train to the cricket this week and to use the train for anything at AO from now on.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Well tomorrow is the big day  ..I'm planning a train ride into the city for the cricket  ..will I get across the bridge or will I be diverted to King William Street?

The bridge is usable as of this afternoon. It will be opened tomorrow morning between 6am and 9am.

If you're arriving at 7am or after, yes you will.

Riverbank footbridge to open tomorrow for Second Ashes Test just three days after last concrete poured

WORKERS have beaten the clock to have the Riverbank footbridge open in time for the first day of the Ashes Test tomorrow.

The last concrete was poured on Monday, just three days before the planned opening just after 7am on Thursday.

Only shame is War Memorial Dr being bitumen. Surely they should have paved the 'shared use' area between the plaza and the bridge landing - similar to the middle of Victoria Square or what they're doing on Hindley St West.

I agree, dude. Who knows, this may be something that happens between now and the start of the footy season?

I know, right? Like if it were only two days old, we'd fall into the friggin Torrens or something. Another example of AdelaideNow trying to place uncertainty of the Oval upgrade upon the reader. AdelaideNow is a joke.

Agree about paving the road, especially considering it'll be closed on event days anyway.
A slightly darker shade of paver would have done the trick, but hey ho.

From memory, a large zebra crossing was meant to be being painted between the bridge landing and plaza.

Agree, Matt and Phantom.

Great celebratory headline and opening statement! Not!!

The item also mentions the Blue Hive octagonal structure.
I saw this structure being constructed last week on the southern side / promenade but was unsure how it would look (and function) on completion.
Need to check it out.

I'll play the Devil's advocate here... At least War Memorial Drive is gonna be closed off to cars for most of the five days (or four if the Poms can fall to another batting collapse or two). I do have a feeling a draw is on the cards, though (meaning to you non cricket fans, that play won't come to a result after all five days). It's not quite a shared zone/paved area, but it's better than nothing and dealing with 25kph cars all day long.

Batting wise, the pitch has had some pretty full on Sheffield Shield results and the weather may cause a few rain delays on Days 1, 3 and 4. This obviously means that the road will be closed off for all the daytime hours from tomorrow through to Monday and also that work cannot recommence on the footbridge itself until sometime into mid-next week. I'm sure that AdelaideNow will somehow warp the facts to make it seem like the bridge is miles off target again, before miraculously being ready days before the start of Round 1...

I drove past that late tonite and I guarantee there is one section of concrete that hasn't been laid, and have used scaffolding to fill in that section close to memorial drive,i know its trivial but article is not accurate, if someone knows better im happy to be corrected
