Things such as, for example, theme parks, water parks, monorails, chairlifts, interactive indoor entertainment attractions such as Infinity, Ripleys Beleive it or Not, Dr Who Experience, Wax Museums, Draculas Haunted House, huge playgrounds such as the one at Sea World, holiday resorts with plenty of fun and entertainment in the resort itself, themed adventure golf, water-zorbing, fun stuff in other words.
A lot of Adelaide people seem to think such things are only for kids! What keeps me sane, and slightly hopeful, is that when the Royal Show is on it's always packed with people of all ages. Also the fact I have friends around the world who are about the same age as me and enjoy things such as these.
Sorry, I know this is way off topic. I should probably start a topic in "the pub" section. Doesn't seem much point though as most people on this forum seem strongly opposed to Adelaide ever having fun things to do (something I find very hard to understand as surely everyone enjoys having fun)!

We have the ex imax screen, maybe go watch a movie have a beer and a "snack" and enjoy your interactive experience lol
[COM] Re: U/C: Rundle Mall Redevelopment | $30m
I think perhaps the issue may be that your idea of fun differs from that of other people.

What is this? I went there when it was Imax, but I know nothing about what became of it.Torrens_5022 wrote:We have the ex imax screen, maybe go watch a movie have a beer and a "snack" and enjoy your interactive experience lol

As I've said though, the Royal Show is always packed even though you have to pay stupid prices, so I'm not the only one in Adelaide who enjoys the things I enjoy.

It became the 'Eximax' screen (great name) for Palace Nova cinemas.pushbutton wrote:What is this? To be fair, I don't understand why the people who disagree with you rip into you as often as they do. You really don't deserve it for stating your opinion about the way you wish Adelaide to be. I too, do believe that Adelaide needs to have some major attractions. There isn't a great deal to get the youth to come and spend some time in Adelaide from interstate.pushbutton wrote:Things such as, for example, theme parks, water parks, monorails, chairlifts, interactive indoor entertainment attractions such as Infinity, Ripleys Beleive it or Not, Dr Who Experience, Wax Museums, Draculas Haunted House, huge playgrounds such as the one at Sea World, holiday resorts with plenty of fun and entertainment in the resort itself, themed adventure golf, water-zorbing, fun stuff in other words.

The AFL moving into the City will be absolutely huge for Adelaide, but we need more! The Tour Down Under is brilliant, but we need more! The Clipsal 500 is good for Adelaide, but we need more! I'm not talking sporting attractions (they were the easiest examples), but we have the second largest fringe festival in the World, we have many field specific World Conferences, but again, we need more!
Rather than focusing sporting events or theme parks, we sorta need to find our own identity Pushbutton, you know? Whether you like it or not, the Gold Coast is always gonna be the theme park capital and Melbourne has marketed themselves as the home of sport. Rundle Mall is known Australia wide. Why don't we build on this and make ourselves the home of shopping in Australia, for example?
If you opened a topic in The Pub, I'd personally love to hear your ideas, mate. And to be fair, we really aren't talking too much about Rundle Mall anymore.
EDIT - Pushbutton, are you personally a fan of the tagline of "South Australia - The Festival State"?

Thanks for your support phantom! To be honest I never took much interest in the festival state number plates, but thinking about it now, I much prefer it to any of the other Australian number plate taglines I know of!
Good to see I'm not the only person on this forum who wants Adelaide to offer some world class fun attractions!
I completely agree we don't have to try to be like any other place. With enough imagination, our attractions could be unique to Adelaide, yet every bit as much fun and every bit as impressive as anything elsewhere in the world!
Look what Dubai is doing! That's the attitude they took. A bit over a decade ago it was a very boring dustbowl. Now it's the most exciting place in the world by far,and still developing! Ok we don't have the money they do, but we do have some money and if we try hard enough I'm sure we can find creative ways to get more, and to begin to make Adelaide truly sensational!

Peter Goers has now gone three weeks running with his crusade against the mall (and now all developers) in his opinion column. At what point does it go from simply embarrassing to outright sad?

Dubai? Let's not look up to Dubai, or should I say "don't buy". That city is nothing but tacky excess. There isn't a single element of class or beauty about it.pushbutton wrote: Look what Dubai is doing! That's the attitude they took. A bit over a decade ago it was a very boring dustbowl. Yes. All but three waterparks are facades that never got off the ground. All they have is a very tall building, a water show in a lake, lots of high end shopping, a load of sand and an unsustainable economy. Let's look to Dubai, as an example of fail, despite pots of money.stronic wrote:Dubai? Let's not look up to Dubai, or should I say "don't buy". That city is nothing but tacky excess. Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I think we've officially hit outright sad.Nathan wrote:Peter Goers has now gone three weeks running with his crusade against the mall (and now all developers) in his opinion column. At what point does it go from simply embarrassing to outright sad?
If he wants shade so desperately, shop at a bloody Westfield until the trees grow.
Miserable old git.
He also slagged off Victoria Square - something else that is nowhere near complete.
The Advertiser (traumatiser) really does the city a disservice by frequently and openly encouraging people to hate their civic spaces, often before they're complete.
Any excuse to whip the masses into a frenzy.

The Advertiser will be hard at work over the next few months to bring down the last State Labor govt and the Adelaide City Lord Mayor. Expect to see a few Advertiser front pages like: "SA NEEDS STEVEN MARSHAL" and "FINALLY, NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO KICK JAY OUT"Matt wrote:I think we've officially hit outright sad.Nathan wrote:Peter Goers has now gone three weeks running with his crusade against the mall (and now all developers) in his opinion column.
