Good to get some 'specific' details of your submission. I agree a building that currently exists shouldn't be made unliveable. It depends what your definition of unliveable in a CBD zone is. A lot of submissions that go into Council are over the most minor and in many cases unfounded ideas about a development. Often, if there are enough of these Council DAP's get worried and will not approve a development. Your recommendations sound reasonable. The developer may alter their plans accordingly or may not. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out. I hope it gets approved eventually!

I agree and certainly do not want to be known as a "wowser"; complaining about the most pedantic little things just because I can.
I'm not the type of person who buys an apartment in the CBD, then expects everything around me to change (e.g. east end residents complaining about noise from Rundle Street).
I hope the developers are reasonable and will adapt the design to suit my needs; then everyone wins!

Heard in the messenger today that there are rumours Transport SA are no longer moving to the CBD.

My info is that the DTEI move is still on the cards and the goverment is looking at developing the currie st bus depot into a 20 story tower

A 20 level office building would be in the vicinity of 80m. This would violate the airport imposed height restrictions for that area of the city. THerefore that is an unlikely site for a 20 level building. Probably the wrong thread to be talking about this, but at uni we had to do a proposal for a development in that end of town and when it came to height restrictions we consulted Johan Louw from ACC and basically the response we got was that the Santos building shields the CBD from airport height restrictions except for a small area along West Tce, south of Gouger St and hence a development this size may still get through.Will wrote:A 20 level office building would be in the vicinity of 80m. No discussion on this project for a while. If you check the online development tracking on the ACC website the developers were asked to submit further information for a 2nd time a while back (maybe some more skyline impact renders). It took a fair while but they submitted the info last week. According to the online system the only other info required is the Airport Authority document.
Originally there was talk of this possibly going to a July DAP meeting, obviously that hasn't happened. It could possibly go to the next one in two weeks time, or more likely September. After the Pirie Street tower refusal recently due to it being a few metres over the height limit I am not all that confident about this one being about 20 metres over the height limit. Out of all the current proposals in Adelaide I want this one to go ahead the most due to the complete change to Adelaide's skyline it would cause and its unusual design features.

Thanks for the update Urban. One of the reasons the Pirie St tower was rejected was because of lack of merit. I would've thought the Currie Street, being a South Aussie designed and something quite spectacular in terms of architecture deserves some merit.

With all the fuss about building height restrictions, anyone know how Santos/Westpac building got through in the 1980's when general height limits were much lower? Whatever it was, the current developers could have a loophole here - especially with such an iconic project.
