Has there been any announcement about the bridge being opened up like it was for the Test Match for the One Dayer on Australia Day?

I spoke to one of the workers on-site and said he didn't know anything about it being open for 31Dec. and there was still a lot of work to be done to finish it by the March deadline! He said they still had granite pavers to be laid over the concrete slab, the waterfall feature, the glass, the lighting etc etc

AFAIK, the bridge won't be open for the BBL or ODI

The Ashes opening was meant to be a one-off - it should have returned to a construction site, and stay that way now until finished.

Apparently plenty of the scaffolding/frame has come down - has the glass cladding begun?
Anyone been past in the last week or so?

Looks wonderful. This is going to be such a plus for the city when its done. The soft opening for the test Match proved that. :applause:
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

They've got to be joking. After originally complaining that the government started work on the bridge before doing long enough consultation, the opposition is now complaining that it's not completed yet.
State Opposition criticises delay with Adelaide Oval footbridge
http://www.news.com.au/national/south-a ... 6796038494

Opposition infrastructure spokeswoman Vickie Chapman has accused the State Government of harming major events by not having completed the Adelaide Oval footbridge.

The $40 million footbridge was closed for last night's Adelaide Strikers match.

She said the Government had claimed the bridge would be finished in December 2013.

Premier Jay Weatherill said the Government was on track to meet its promise that the footbridge would be functional for the December Ashes Test and fully complete for the 2014 AFL season.

He accused the Opposition of "gross hypocrisy" for claiming the Government was responsible for construction delays after it had slowed planning assessment of the bridge in Parliament.
"There have been no delays in the footbridge," Mr Weatherill said.

"We announced this would be completed in March.

"We said it would be ready to walk across for the Ashes, and it was."

I always thought Vicki Chapman wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed but is she really that dumb to play that card!

The bridge was always scheduled to be complete by March, and AFAIK, it's still on track to be complete by March.

This close to an election, that's quite a gaffe from Chapman.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the idiocy of the state Liberal Party and Vickie Chapman's claims? I'll leave this image here to really drill it home.

I saw Ms Vickie Chapman on the Ch 9 news tonight, again complaining that the footbridge wasn't open for the Strikers match. This is getting annoying!! Especially, when her party continually whiteant this project and Ms Sanderson, The Liberal Member for Adelaide, organized a protest rally against the footbridge.

They complain about the waste, then that it is behind schedule and not open soon enough!!!

People have been informed multiple times that the footbridge was going to be 'open' for use during the Ashes, then closed so it could be completed in time for the football season in March with the return to full AO capacity/completion of the eastern stand. (SACA keeps its members fully informed, including that the footbridge is not open for T20 Big Bash and other cricket matches) and it's in the media and on the website.

The only minor gripe I heard from the big crowd exiting the Oval after the Strikers match was the sprinklers being on along the Elder Park, adjacent King William St frontage, causing some dodging and weaving for a few minutes!
